Hi, iv started suffering from vitiligo it's all over the top of my back, I haven't been to the dr yet but have been doing lots of research and from what I can tell seeing the dr won't achieve much, anybody know anything about the condition, it's really getting me down at the mo and I have a ball coming up and a strapless dress to wear, looks like il have to get a shrug or something to cover it... Any help or ideas would be very welcome :) x

Do you mean Vitiligo? As in the condition where your skin loses pigmentation and you're left with white/pale patches?

My mom has severe Vitiligo over her whole body, and has had it all her life. In some small cases it appears, then goes away, but in the majority of people with the condition, the melanin will not return to the affected areas.

If we're referring to the same thing, I'm happy to share her experiences, but you're also welcome to PM me if you prefer xx

In the mean time, see your doctor hun, and if needs be get a referral to a skin specialist. You need a professional diagnosis, and support if you're feeling down xxx

There's also lots of camo make up you can use to help even out ur skin tone. But you really should see your Dr hon because he may help more than you realise. I hope you don't let it get you down too much (although I do realise how easy it is for me to say that!)

Yes that's the one, iv edited my post but can't edit the title...

I'm hoping to get in at the dr this week, if they can get me in, if it's not urgent they make you wait :(. iv only had it about a month but it's taking over my back, really not nice, I know I can't see it but so many people have mentioned it that it's really bugging me now.

I thought of camo makeup but it's hard to reach my own back, my hubby would help but I'm not a makeup person and wouldn't know where to begin with getting the colour right....

Thank you for taking the time to read my post :)

Hi...... look into pseudocatalase cream for your vitiligo. This cream on its own or combined with UVB light is one of the best things you can do for the condition. The cream must be ordered by a Dr.
Another alternative is to bleach the rest of your skin to match the depigmented areas. This can be done by using hydroquinone cream (although some people question its safety). This is what Michael Jackson did i believe.
I think if the condition is minor, some people apply fake tan to the depigmented areas to match the surrounding skin tone.

I personally would never recommend skin bleaching cream as its known to completely kill off the melanocytes within the skin and can actually make the condition worse. Unfortunately, many Afro-caribbean people use it to make their skin lighter and it has lead to some devastating results including deformities. Please research it fully before choosing that route so you know exactly what the risks are

As far as I am aware fake tan is a suitable temporary measure but it depends on the individuals skin as to how successful it will be

You really need to speak to your Dr as you can be referred to a camouflage make up specialist for free on the NHS who can teach a friend/family member to do this for you when it affects hard to reach areas. Plus there are many books available too with great tips

Good luck and make sure you get as much help from your Dr as possible :)

xoxo

Hi hunie I do camo make up so if you need any hints or tips or how it works let me know and I'll do my best to answer your questions. You could just wear it for the ball or for every day if you really wanted to.

Another option (without knowing how big it is) is semi permanent make up. It's used to help those who's areolas aren't there and can help you too if you were willing to go down that route. You would def needed to be patch tested before as it can make it come up in other areas.

I would speak to as many professionals as you can to get the best treatment for you.

I hope you don't see it as a bad thing, my level 2 teacher was gorgeous and she had it all her life. Good luck hun x

Thank you all for taking a look at my thread it really is appreciated, it's just on my back at the mo but can be seen if wearing lower backed tops, feeling quite a bit more positive about it now, I think I will def look into the camo makeup for nights out, is there a brand any of you can recommend? :) x

Hi hun, Dermablend is a fantastic camo makeup brand- mom used it daily for over 15 years. She uses CoverBlend now, as she gets it on prescription with support from her doctor.
She/I would highly recommend either xx
