I noticed tiny thin vertical black lines in my friend's fingernails. They are very thin, thinner than a strand of hair, black, and about 1cm to 2cm in length. The lines are not on the surface of the nail, they are "inside" (sorry for the poor description). There are a few vertical lines on each nail, but not on every nail. Just 3 of them. Do you know what they are, the cause, and what she can do about them?

Thanks in advance :)

Think i have heard of this before, think they are like little haemerages (sp) maybe another geek can clarify? xxxxx

possibly splinter hemorrhage from damage/trauma, that would be my guess.
has she damaged her nails recently, possibly pulled/prised off enhancements?

Ahh, yes, she went diving with her nail enhancements on recently, nails suffered with carrying all the heavy equipment and stuff! Hmm. So i guess we'll just have to wait for them to grow out then :p

"Splinter hemorrhage", MissVain has learnt a new term yet again :D
thank you all!
