Wearing hair in high pony all time - would it cause extensions to matt?

I have a client, who recently came to see me to have her weave extensions removed, her hair was terribly matted. I know she wears her hair up ALL the time, even her friend, who also has her hair done by me said she has her hair up all the time. It was matted but she had still shoved it up in a high pony. So i wondered, could wearing the hair up all the time cause the extensions to matt?

I would have said no and its more to do with the hair and the way its been fitted, and if you're confident in your own work then its most likely the customers treatment of the hair and the hair itself.
