i currently specialise in bridal makeup which takes me all over the southeast .. great, but i find i spend so much time on the road which isnt so great for my work/life balance ..
i am having a little one in sept, and would like to work closer to home when i go back from mat leave .. i am currently looking into eyelash extensions and natural nail care (+shellac) as i know these services would work well locally, but would also like to keep my hand in makeup - i plan to only take bookings for weddings within a 20 mile radius, i know this will obviously reduce my bookings so appart from concentrating my advertising to my local area only - through wedding fairs, local directories etc i need to offer a broader range of makeup services .. i havent really promoted any of the potential services i am able to offer before, ie. proms (do people really book mua for proms?) special occasions, makeovers (perhaps in a photographic studio) makeup parties - are these popular at all and makeup lessons - for brides, individuals, groups, mothers / daughters, teens etc .. just wondered what you found to be popular? i notice many mua offer the above services on their web sites, but do they actually take bookings for them? most of the mua i know specialise in bridal and photographic, fashion, editoral etc so thought id ask on here
many thanks x

Hi Blush09,

I do find proms popular, especially the May Balls in Cambridge which are coming up. Make-up parties are also good (adults though, I don't do kids) especially before Christmas. Make-up lessons are great for women getting married abroad. I do a far balance of each really but Bridal/special occasion is not my main focus, I've been doing more photographic.

You could get a profile on Model Mayhem and see what casting calls come up. Most of them are TF work though but it helps to build up a decent photographic portfolio.

Hope this helps!

thanks sharkster
can i ask how you run your makeup parties ? do you do makeovers on each of the guests or the host and get them to copy etc .. was thinking of offering glam and go parties for hen nights with makeup and manis + shellac
great idea about the may balls, im right on top of several unis and colleges .. bit late for this year, but may consider prom services for next year - can i ask, do the girls find you through your site or do you target the colleges direct?
thanks again x

Hi there

I specialise in brides too but also do makeup lessons. Usually these are bought as gifts and I have a 3 prices £30 for lesson, £80 lesson and makeup, £125.00 2 hours day/evening look plus a makeup bag of goodies.

I also get brides coming back to me for colour advise and to purchase my products.

I've just set up my online shop for mineral makeup, brand is from Canada and I've just launched it in the UK and looking for makeup artists for Get the Look parties. So have a look, let me know what you think.
