Working form home can be a double edged sword. Sometimes when you're not around people who are in the industry, you tend to lose passion faster and shy away from what's currently going on in the hair world.
I'm not surprised that you're bored tbh. Anyone just doing a 5.0 root retouch all the time is bound to get bored. Anything that is monotonous and repetitive gets boring in life.
What helps me personally, is the little things.. like buying myself some new brushes, products to try and such. It makes me actually excited to try them out and i look forward to my next client that way and trying it out!
The day that you feel like you've done it all and you don't need to learn, is the time that you need to learn the most!
I've been doing hair for 11 years, and I still feel like I learn something new everyday. There's so many ways to do one thing.
And there's always areas I find I can improve on, and things that I don't feel like I'm good at all and need to work on a LOT.
It sounds like there's a mismatch between your personal life, and professional life. When you work from home, you're expected to be available at all hours, and it sounds like you do. Not leaving enough time for your family.
Especially when people are coming into your home.. you feel like you never really "walk away from work" so to speak. And it's constantly crossing that professional line when you're inviting people into your home.
Most importantly.. find things you ENJOY doing. Say if you enjoy doing a certain style of hair..like rainbow hair let's just say. Find models through social media who want that look and give them signature look, letting people know that is your "brand" and let them be your walking advertisement! and that way you can find clients and do things you enjoy doing, that will excite you and won't feel like work!
I know those root touchups are your bread and butter right now, but try to find a better balance between your professional and personal life while still opening yourself to new clients, and doing the type of hair that excites you and challenges you, and it will never get boring!
