where to buy fire extinguishers from

Hello

I am wanting to pick your brains and hope to get a response! I am opening a salon and trying to comply with all health and safety regulations. I understand that i will need fire extinguishers in the salon and not sure where to obtain them from? Do the fire service provide them or do you buy them from somewhere? I have ordered a health and safety poster and got an accident book. I will be doing risk assessments but not sure what else needs to be done. Oh and a first aid kit also! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen fire extinguishers for sale in our local Staples store; you'd need to make sure that you have the right type of fire extinguishers though (you will probably need to check with your Health & Safety documentation, but in general you need carbon dioxide fire extinguishers for anything electrical or involving burning liquids, e.g. oil, fat, etc - and water fire extinguishers for general fires not involving electrical equipment or burning liquids).

Hi, I phoned a local company. They chose and installed the correct type of extinguishers and the correct amount and gave me free tuition in using them. They also put up all the necessary stickers and fire exit signs etc. Basically it was well worth the expense as it took care of everything. They also come out annually to service them (another requirement)

You can get your local fire department to do an inspection and tell you what you need. They may also advise of reputable suppliers in your area.
