Hi, This is my first time so please understand if things are a bit slow and not to slick. P.S I'll try to keep it as brief as i can.
Have been looking at premises for a salon for 6 dress outs, couple of nail bars and with the idea of putting in 2 rooms to let. 1 as a beauty room and 1 as a spray tan room.
Found a shop that seemed ideal but when working out the area and shape of the shop, it just was'nt quite big enough to fit it all in. SHAME!
Then we were shown, THE BASEMENT! What a suprise it was a mirror image of the ground floor so it doubled the size of the shop. WOW:!: possabilities are amazing now.(Salon filling the upstairs, beauty tanning nails in the basement.
Just wondering if any one has a shop where use the basement as working space (Not just storage).
There is a flight of stairs from the ground floor to the basement.Half way down is a fire exit to the outside car park. Stair well has a fire door at the top and bottom and a small window in the basement.
If you have an area similar to this and you use it i would love to hear from you. xxx

I worked at a place where she used the basement.

she had a shop with a WOODEN FLOOR then one treatment room and a loo and a small kitchen on the ground floor.

You then went downstairs and she had a large treatment room, then a treatment room with 3 beds in and curtains around.

I generally used the basement room and hated it.

firstly, no natural lighting.
Secondly, it smelt fusty.
Thirdly, you could hear every foot step from above.
Fourthly, you could hear the cars on the road above.
Fifthly, the stairs had no carpets, so if someone else was using the room next to me, you could hear them walking and talking down the stairs.

So, I would check out the lighting, the atmosphere, and the noise levels.

If you are going to be doing seated treatments like nails, then it might not be so bad, but I was trying to do relaxing massage treatments and I hated it.

I'm american and have seen and enjoyed the basement, most house in my home town had them, but could I just mention RADON, its very dangerous stuff and found in basements. I would get the levels checked. I do agree about lack of natural light but that could be over come. It sounds nice to me!
