Having just come back from Lanzarote on XL Airlines, I am so lucky I booked my flights for when I did, I was so surprised when my partner told me this morning about them going bust.
All those poor people stranded at the airport waiting to fly off for a holiday just to be stuck at the airport and told there flights are cancelled...for good..Luckily it seems that some airlines are stepping in to take the burden off...but there will still be an awful lot of disappointed people who have lost their holiday and there money.
The powers that be must have known something was wrong, but still took bookings, I think its bloody awful..and I hope they are brought to book, but I doubt it.
I hope non of you Geeks are amongst the ones who have lost out  xx

I believe that the powers that be always know something is wrong before a company goes into administration. My hubby and I have been affected by this senario twice with us having to stomach extra costs. It is appalling.

It is one thing to find that you can't go on holiday because your flight company has gone bankrupt, but it is another to be stranded in a foreign country and left to fend for yourself.

Many people scrimp and save their last pennies to afford an occasional holiday. What do they do now that they can't afford to fly home?

I really hope the authorities help them out, but I have no doubt it will come at a cost to the British taxpayers in one way or another . I also help those going on holiday can recoup their money. Then there is the daunting thought of all of those people who have now been informed that they have no jobs.

I am now too nervous to book my flights for my family for our holiday next year. Who knows which company will go bust next?

I saw a programme at the weekend about this...check your small print because for some reason, those who were booked on flights to Egypt are covered by the insurance...it's worth checking it out. I flew to Holland on Friday from Durham Tees Valley and it was packed to the rafters with holiday makers who had been 'shipped' up from Glasgow and Newcastle because they'd been offered alternative flights. You never know, you might be one of the lucky ones

Sonia's gran and aunt booked with XL to go to Florida and have had the holiday cancelled - thankfully they paid on a credit card though so should be able to get the money back. Still scary though!

My friends where going to Florida as well, that had to be cancelled, but they have got a holiday replacement, there going to the Bahama's instead..x

I saw on the local news today a lad of 18 whos got a skin condition which causes his skin to come off he only as a couple of years left to live and his holiday of a lifetime in Florida as been lost due to XL.
I hope someone will help him out so he can still go.

Oh thats awful, Im sure someone will help him tho. I hope so anyway. Thet saying another 10 airlines will go before its over, I was going to book up for Feb but think I will leave it a while ..
