Hi geeks, was just wondering if anyone may have any suggestions for an xmas fun night that my local town have every year.

my salon has only been open 5months so this is a great opportunity to get new custom.

basically, my salon is on the highstreet and the road gets closed off so that people can visit all the shops and locals dress up as old victorian folk etc and theres roasted chestnuts etc and santa - the full works.

the local shops always offer different things such as mince pies champagne etc for adults and activities for kids. It gets really busy.

Im just trying to think of something different to get people in the shop so that they can have a look at the salon, was thinking of doing % off bookings on the night and discount retail products etc.

was also thinking of doing facepainting for kids as this will bring thier parents in too but ive never done it before but im sure i can do if i do make up!

was just wondering if anyone else has done a simular event and what works or anyone has any ideas?

Thanks x

why not go the whole Victorian theme and do Victorian style beauty treatments?

And for the kiddies, make them climb up your chimney and sweep it! lol

Hi

I googled Victorian beauty treatments and came up with this website which may have some useful tips.
Make-up History Cosmetics before 1950

Maybe dress up in Victorian costume or charge Victorian prices for a treatment (that wouldn't make you rich but it's an idea).

Good luck with it and let's know what you decide.

I have visons of leeches and strange antiquated things like teeth-pulling! Perhaps smelling salts for the ladies (but make them nice) and give the kids beetle looking sweets and stick them on their faces! love a bit of gooe.

thanks geeks! what great ideas, ive done some research and ive found website that shows you how to make homemade lavender soap in the same way victorians did so i can get kids and adults involved and they can then take away the soap with them at the end!

im thinking of setting up the reception area as the shop front is just glass so people can see whats going on inside and demonstrating how to do it so that people can come in and have a go too.

beetles and gooey stuff sounds great for little boys though as i doubt theyre going to be interested in soap!

thanks again for the inspiration!x

we did something similar at the salon i used to work at and we offered

face painting is really easy and argos near me had face paint kits for £1!! u could just offer really easy and quick things one for girls and one for biys google it for tips.
and just really quick treamtments like file and polishes at £5
get all the staff involved maybe get some to go up and dpwn the high street with some sort of flyer telling them the offers you have

food always gets ppl in!!!

i did a spot of face painting but gave it up as i never felt i was really that good at it ... however you'd be surprised at the transformations with a little cosmetic glitter (applied with a puffer)
also face gems, i used to apply a face gem to the center of the foreheard, paint a tiara around it and apply a little glitter - the girls loved it, and i just about felt id got away with it, lol !!
