Hi geeks.

my brothers come out in a horrible rash.. Two Gp's at his practise have no idea what it is  they've prescribed an array of tablets & creams for him 2 weeks ago but it is getting worse each day.

Just wondered if anyone has seen it before or knows what it could be?

His skin is sore, he says it very itchy & irritating, & the sores keep weeping & bleeding. The rash is also all over his back & palms of hands & soles of feet.

I'm trying to convince him to go down to a & e (not an emergency as such but maybe a dr there will be able to diagnose him seeing as though his own gp's can't & maybe prescribe him something that will cool it down a bit)

Thanks geeks xx

We originally thought psoriasis but the 2 gp's have ruled it out as did the practise nurse. So were still pretty clueless to what it is, bless him x

Id make an appointment with a dermatologist my gp had no idea how to deal with my eczema and it took me 4 years to get a referral to a Derm who diagnosed me in 5 minutes. In hindsight I wish I had paid myself for a derm appt years before

Ah poor thing, that looks nasty.... Scabies?

omg i came out in a very similar rash one new years eve, went to the doctors, and had many people look at it to no avail. finallly realised what it was when i was in the shower and said to my mum the towels smelt REALLY nice and she had changed fabric softner and I was allergic to that. try pyriton and if it doesnt go away then, then you KNOW it's not an allergic reaction! xx

To me it looks like an allergic reaction to something. My little boy gets it a lot and it's hard to determine what actually caused it x

Hi hun, the Dr said it wasn't scabies. They sat with a book for nearly an hour trying to work out what it was!! lol they clearly haven't a clue

he's only young so this for him is the end of the world, as he is out a lot with his friends & now he daren't leave the house.

My mum is phoning the hospital for some advice as both Drs at his practise can't help so she doesn't see she has any choice x

he's been taking piriton for over a week now so maybe it's not a reaction then. xx

I get this in random places on my hands sometimes about ten spots per hand and they hurt like mad! They feel like some is stabbing a pin into you when you touch them so I really feel for him! Been as mine had only been a few spots and I showed my mom and she also said she gets them sometimes I haven't bothered to go to the GP and get it diagnosed but maybe we have the same condition but his is much much worse x

Well if the GP's do not know, have they not referred him to a specialist?

If not, get back there and demand a referral.

But do check that such things as Soap, Washing powder, and skin products have not been changed.

And even current products used. manufacturers do sometimes change contents of products.

I know for years I used a particular soap, then started to itch after using it, and the contents had been changed.

If the GP's have been unable to diagnose, my advice would be to call NHS Direct in the first instance, followed by a trip to A & E if advised to do so.

I developed a rash after being sunburnt last year and after lots of trips to the doctors and being given lots of creams it still would not go. It was fungi on the skin (which everyone has) but it had reacted to the sun and heat. It took so long to get diagnosed so maybe it could be this? The doctor said some peoples can react to sweat aswell. You can get a shampoo for the skin which you use for a week maybe its worth asking about that. Sorry ive forgot what the condition is called but its nothing serious. Its horrible when you have a rash as it makes you so self concious x x

Have you got a local walk in centre?

I would turn up there and ask their opinion, sometimes they have colleagues who take a special interest in certain things and you never know, one might just be able to take a look.

No offense to GP's, but they are just that, General Practitioners. You need a referral to specialist.

Rashes can drive you crazy. It's interesting that it's on his extremeties only. I would love to know what the Dr's say when they finally are able to treat him.

I saw something similar on embarrassing bodies last night and it turned out to be hives?? Watch it on iplayer if you can to if there are any similarities. x

Looks like good old-fashioned sweat rash to me. I get it on my hands when I do nails and I have to wear cotton gloves inside my nitrile gloves. Once you get it its a bugger to get rid of. Itches like mad but hurts terribly at the same time. The areas he's got it are typically sweatty areas too??
Has he had topical antihistamine?
Hope he gets it sorted, poor guy xxx

Have they given him tablets? It's worth going back to the doc's again, they may refer him.

This looks like urticaria. My niece gets it loads of times and it's always bought on by an allergy to something, usually food or medication. It always comes up on her face too and being a self conscious 21yr old she hates it:( She was in hospital last week for a kidney infection and the antibiotic bought the rash on. She has to have antihistamines and steroid creams when she's having an episode. Has your brother been given steroid creams?. Really hope he gets sorted soon xx
