I work part-time in an office, I've only been in in business since March and am still building up myclientel.

I have a whole list of jobs I do to pay the bills and save for my business. I'm a support worker. I enjoy that as I get to interact and help people. I also make anti pecking devices for pheasants from home. Takes a while put can do it while watching telly. I clean several homes and also walk dogs/house sit for anyone willing to pay. Good thing about house sitting is I take my course material with me and study etc. Hoping to have my own beauty room and mobile business in the new year!! Wish I'd left school and went to beauty school instead of doing my highers at college. 21 and working 5+ jobs when I could of been 4 years in the business. If you want something so bad then you do whatever to get it. Jobs are certainly not easy to come by these days.

:) xxx

For the last 12 years I have been a fitness instructor & personal trainer which I love, however, it does take a toll on your body at my age lol.
I qualified in nails & beauty in June & am working mobile part time & am loving it.

I have dropped the amount of hours spent in fitness to accommodate my new career.

I love both my jobs & consider myself to be very lucky to find two things I love doing & getting paid for them both.

I'm in the Royal Navy as a Communications & I.T. Specialist and have been for 7 & half years but volunteered for redundancy and am about to set up my own home salon! So excited as it's completely different to what I've been doing but I love it so much! My last day of actual work on the Navy is 16th Dec and then paid leave till March! Yippee!

I was in beauty for 6 years working in a local salon. After a long time of decision making I came out of this job and now work as a support worker which I enjoy. Beauty is definitely my passion and my long term goal is to work as a freelance therapist. I work an average of 50 hrs in my support job and work my beauty around this. It is handy being flexible but I only get my rota a week in hand so it can b a little difficult if somebody wants to book an exact time and date in advance. I hope to cut my hrs down some time soon and pray that I one day have a successful full time self employed career :-/

I'm training at the mo in nails and beauty
BUT my day job I work for the Police.. (police staff not officer).. always had an interest nails/beauty, so giving it a go x

Nurse, in part time hours, which is my choice. It takes the stress away of building up a clientele, but I also think it takes away the motivation too!

I couldn't entirely give it up because of the pension. So maybe I'll end up cutting my hours even more!

I've been in my current office job (in the exhibitions industry) for 12 years and I'm utterly spent with it. Have decided to quit my job this year.

I qualified in beauty therapy about 5/6 years ago and want to pursue it now so I'm doing some courses to refresh and plan to start doing some mobile work and build up a client base. Hoping to open a room in my house this year or early next year! I might have to do some office work part time to make a bit of regular income but I'm ok with that if I know it's not forever.

Hi

I currently work as an electrical administrator/contracts co-ordinator for a building company - Its ok it pays the bills but determined not to be here next year!! LOL

Keep going, my motto at the moment:

Never Give Up, Believe In Yourself and Work Hard and Your Dreams Will Come True

:)

I have been a qualified beauty therapist for 15 years. for 11 of those years I have been self employed working in salons and for last 8 years mobile.

I had a period of about 6 years when I specialised in nails only and as time goes on the demand from my clients and the fact that I miss doing facials ect have been motivated to pick up where I left off with my beauty.

Through this time I have managed to gain a diploma and a degree in Graphic Design, this has always been an interest of mine and although I have never worked in a design environment I use this new skill on all of my marketing materials for my business. I am just in the process of rebranding - same name just new image to highlight the fact that I am nails and beauty now.

In the meantime when I have quiet phases, which I do, I temp as a receptionist for an agency.

I hope to push the beauty so much that I can forget about temping all together. But it helps to know that I have it to fall back on.

The future for me is to train in body massage and promote intensely locally to me, then one day open my own salon. This is what I have wanted from day one from leaving school. Its just that life happens around you and before you know it you feel left behind.

It is never too late to achieve any dream you have, it just takes focus, hard work and time.

Keep going guys, we can do it.

I work evenings in a chip shop (dont laugh!) and have done for the past 6 years. Opened my little home hair salon the start of this month and although its going slow i hope to leave the chippy job within the next 2 years depending how my business picks up :) i do like my current job as the staff are like my family as theyve seen me grow up (been there since i was 16) its just the summer time that kills me! Oh, and some customers who think they are better than you and look down on you because you work in fast food. Could punch some of them and im not a violent person aha! Id love to do hair full time but its just not gonna happen as yet. Fingers crossed for the future! Onwards and upwards! :D xx

I work in the airline industry full time. Hoping to go part time so I can up the beauty business. The only thing is I want kids soon. So cant build the business only to lose clients... I cant work out the best option!

I work in the car sales business (not very girly sat all!)

I have a company car, major downside!!! As i could not afford to buy/insure/tax a car.

I also live in a very nice house on my own!

so unless a magic fairy came along and paid my bills there is no way i could go full time atm doing nails and tanning.

I work from 8.30am to 6pm then do nails at the evening as I also work saturdays.

It difficult trying to make the transition between just being able to book each evening to days and evenings too, however i will acheive it in the next couple of years! I better do anyway xxxxx

I work 20 hours a week for social services then do my mobile beauty in my spare time. I would love to go full time doing beauty but I just cant rely on the money. I applied for a job working in boots on one of the make up counters as i hate my job now but it was 37 hours a week and i still wouldn't earn as much as i do with social services working only 20 hours and then i would have very little time to fit in beauty.
I think i need to find a man with a good job who can pay all the bills so i wont have to worry and can just do what i love!

I'm a full time Primary Teacher. Trained with CND 6 years ago when I worked as a nursery nurse, gave up my day job to go self employed in a nail bar. After a few months went back to my day job and continued to work in the nail bar at weekends. Being a nail tech was a great support and source of income when I went back to uni to gain my teaching qualification. since becoming a teacher I've worked in salons at weekends but now feel that doing it mobile suits better as its more flexible. Like everyone else the days are long and days at weekend taken up doing clients........ but I love it! I wouldnt swap it for anything. Some days I wish I could go back to do nails full time. Maybe one day!

I'm a key holder at the body shop :) I love it!! X

I work in a college library 2 days a week

I have a self employed domestic cleaning buisness as well as my nails ,I kinda feel embarrased by it for some reason and not tell too many people as doin ur own housework can be very boring I understand but when u get paid for it its a different case ...
I also like the fact its a permant self employed wage coming in each week...sometimes it can be hard juggling the two when nails are busy ..but at the same time some days its nice to do a clean and then then get changed into ur tunic to go n do a nail apt ...oneday I hope to employ staff to clean whilst Im out doing nails :lick:That will be a good feeling ;)

I work for the nhs in health visiting only 18hrs per wk, rent a room in a salon 2 days per week and also mobile

I'm currently training as I student nurse as well as working as a hairstylist and mua.

My partner is a lot older than me, so I need a more 'sensible' job as my oh says!

after I qualify I'm toying with joining the royal navy and leaving the beauty industry.
