Quiet times and what to do?

It depends on your area/client demographic. I 100% have a lot of customers come to me for being a vegan and cruelty free salon, and I recently went eco and sustainable (I was already, but I’m including it in my USP now). Keep on the good fight x

How many average bookings per week with Treatwell?

I really like Treatwell. It works well for me. My salon (3 therapists) has through Treatwell had 217 bookings this month, 59 of those first time clients. And it’s January AND we’re literally only half way through the month!

    Chrome powder help

I don’t know where she found it it, but my colleague found a trick to cap the nail with acid free primer (after chrome, before topcoat) Tried it once on a male client, and it worked! Dunno if we were just lucky though.

    Pop up massage shop?

Super positive for the most part. Everyone initially thinks it s great idea, but you just have to keep at them to make it happen. Just be persistent and stay positive.

    Pop up massage shop?

I do this with manicures. It's a great idea and so much fun. For offices, usually I just reach out to HR or the office manager or ask if they have a welfare committee. A lot of companies are doing some form of welfare and some will even subsidise it (be ready with numbers). Just ask to block out...

Elleebana lash lift and belmacil tint

I asked them directly the same question last year. It is vegetarian friendly and it is NOT tested on animals, but the lift kit contains lanolin, so it’s not vegan. but it is ethically sourced lanolin. Depends how pragmatically vegan you are.

    Pen recommendations for swatch sticks?

I buy a super cheap gel top coat from ebay and use that to go over my sharpie (you use a lot!) Works a treat. I also go over regular polish swatches. They used to constantly smudge when clients would go through the colours.

    Vegan cruelty free gels?

    I’m confused. Can you clarify?

    Vegan cruelty free gels?

Contact the companies directly and get their official advise. There’s a lot of confusion about vegan products. I believe that only some products imported into China require animal testing, but the majority of it now is done in labs on reconstructed skin cells. China is starting to change out...

    How to ‘dump’ difficult client?

Your job is hard enough babes. Don’t let ANYONE affect your mental health. Don’t take anymore appointments with her. However which way you feel. White lies or flat out tell her ( the latter is harder, but gives you better closure on it). You have other clients. And you’ll get more.

    The Manicure Company

I’ve used a couple. Light colours are terribly streaky. Need several layers to look nice. Dark colours are super gloopy. I cure 60 seconds in a 48 watt lamp. Anything less and the layers slide apart. I wouldn’t buy them myself.

    Concern for wellbeing of client

This is why I love this job. I’ve had a few vulnerable encounters. Be her safe space. Don’t push her. Don’t pry. Just be there for her. Be, as you put it ‘stone silent’ but she’ll know you know. And that will be the most important and best way to support her. Make her a cup of tea. Make the...

    Gel removal timings

I use primarily OPI and find it easy to take off. I soak in foils wraps (cut cotton pads and kitchen foil) with generic 100% acetone bought from Sally’s. I leave them for 10/15 minutes (patience is key here) and it just lifts off with out having to scrape (I don’t even buff the surface). Same...

    Nail art

I use Posca pens, sharpies and acrylic paint for nail art. On top of gel colour and regular nail colour. They’re great for finer details of nail art. Just make sure to let it dry before you top coat otherwise it smudges!

    Vegan cruelty free gels?

My colleague uses Semilac (beautiful coverage, especially their glittery gels) it’s a Polish brand. There’s nothing on their website so I contacted them re vegan and cruelty free and they confirmed by email that their products are vegan and cruelty free. Side note, China is working with...

    Eyelash extensions advice

Barbicide is blue (so you don’t drink it) but it won’t stain your tools.

Losing heart-started a month ago and had only 3 clients

I joined a couple of local networking groups and communities on Facebook. Women in Business/ entrepreneur groups. I go to their coffee mornings and hand out flyers, offer special rates if they’re members of that group or attended a specific networking event. It’s terrifying, but physically going...

    Late clients?

No. Clearly this lady is just plain rude. And unfortunately a common occurrence. “You will tell the next client she will wait” who the hell does she think she is? Yes, be more understanding, but to clients who genuinely need it and those that respect you. Set yourself this mind frame and...

    Mobile card machines

I use square. Love it. And I’ve set up a few fellow self employed clients with it as well. You buy the pos and that’s it. No monthly fee, but there is a 1.75% fee on all transactions. You get the funds the next working day. Works off 3G if you don’t have WiFi (I use it when I’m at events and...
