    Metallic nails

Young Nails Caption Polish called 'Rewind Repeat' is pretty metallic looking with a good top coat. I'm sure other brands do similar. No need for harmful powders!!

    Sorry for the rant

I don't think the problem is about displaying your price as of course clients want to know immediately but instead about *how* you display your price. Take these 2 examples: Example 1 Shellac manicure = £22. Call/message to book. Example 2 Professional Shellac manicure by fully trained CND...

    Sorry for the rant

Morning You need to differentiate yourself from other techs. Currently, when someone emails you, the potential client just sees the price and they think 'oh, £22, I can get it for £20 with XXX' - that sort of thing. And it's not a case of lowering your prices as trust me, there will always be...

Barrier cream help for allergy please, or what system I can use?

You could try 'finger cots' - Google it! They look sort of (very) weird... but would save you cutting / taping gloves. Not tried them but any feedback would be useful!

    Gel top coat for acrylics

Seche vite, dries super quick and is super shiny and long lasting too! Google it, I think I got mine on amazon.

    Essential Nails? Start up help

Hello For what it's worth, my advice would be to find a local, non brand specific trainer and get some basic mani (and pedi too maybe) training. Don't focus on brand at this stage. Make sure you find someone who offers an accredited course so that when you have done it, you will have a...

Help with Ink rock top coat please

As for thumbs, I do four fingers on 1 hand then cure, four fingers on the other hand then cure, then lastly both thumbs together so that you can turn the thumbs flat without risk of the gel on the fingers running (as it's already cured). I lift the lamp up and the client sort of holds it when...

    Practice hand

Why not just give it a go and see what happens?? I think they are only a couple of quid on ebay so if it all goes wrong, it's not a hugely expensive mistake but if it goes well, then good! (and if it turns out weird, then it can be used to freak out your husband even more!!!) Just remember that...

    Help! Clients with dry nails

When you say lifting off, do you mean lifting at an edge rather than the whole lot coming off in one go? My guess would be that if this is the case, then your clients are then pulling / picking the remaining gel off which is then damaging the nail. (Delamination) Not sure what the answer is...

    IBX before and after

Oh yes forgot about the curing stage! Was fixated on the heat part as that seems to cause lots of confusion about what is / is not suitable!! Thanks izzidoll!!!!

    So confused

OK, I understand, so why don't you book yourself a manicure course (1-2-1) in the summer - I'm guessing you have about 3 months off before uni starts? In the meantime, enjoy practising your polish work on willing friends and family and getting neat at the whole thing. When you have manicure...

    IBX before and after

I think Salon Services do it too but you do need a trade account. You need a heat lamp - or a lamp with an 'old style' bulb that gives off heat - not a UV lamp (so neither the CND shellac nor the LED lamp will work as they only emit UV light)

    So confused

Why not do both? Surely between now and September you can do a 'basic' manicure course. I would recommend going to a local non brand specific educator to get a good grounding. Don't necessarily go with a specific brand as you need to learn the basics, regardless of the system you may end up...

    Acrylic/gel beauticians out there

Hi, the powder you are talking about is possibly something like the SNS Gelous system. Have a look at snsnails.com. I've seen this advertised at one of our local NSS and also know someone who's had it done from this salon. Also called dip and tip I think (but more 'dip' than 'tip' if no length...

Just want to confirm I am not mad!

Sounds like it could be SNS nail dipping powder? Check out snsnails.com...they seem to do something called GELous soak off colour powder, so guess that people think it is gel, but it is more like acrylic? I know an nss near me uses this system, and I know someone who's had it done and she swears...

    Young Nails SlickPour

I didn't get the impression it's for creating length on nails (i.e. as an alternative to tips or sculpting) but rather it is an overlay on natural nails to give strength. So it's the same as a 'dip' system (as in 'tip and dip' but without the 'tip'!). But it seems like a rather complicated way...

    Cat/tiger eye effect gel polish

They have them on The Gel Bottle website - was looking at them longingly only the other day! http://www.thegelbottle-shop.com/#!blank/tealr They are in UK and I'm afraid I've no idea if they ship overseas...

    Young Nails Lucents

Thanks for quick reply! Yes I've watched quite a few of his videos already! Obviously he's passionate about the product - and it shows!! Have you tried the Lucents polishes?

    Young Nails Lucents

I was on the Young Nails website just about to order some Protein Bond, when I realised the P&P is a bit steep just for one product... so was browsing the YN website and I saw Lucents polish. Looks absolutely amazing! Has anyone tried it (I'm sure someone has!) - could you give me your honest...

    Not happy

Gosh what a nuisance! Look at it from a business point of view though, use your head not your heart. You are currently out of pocket by £65. How much time do you want to spend trying to recoup this money? Set a time limit otherwise you are losing even more money (time = money!). Also, assuming...
