    Posting availability to social media

I have 600 followers who are genuine clients and posting vacant appointment makes no difference what so ever to my salon. It actually makes us look desperate imho.

    Clients expectations

Sorry if this has been posted before. http://www.hairproductandtechnique.com/articles/hair/what-every-stylist-wishes-you-understood/ I think I'm going to make this a mandatory read for every colour client. [emoji3]

Advice about covering greys with highlights

This sounds odd. Your greys should not notice after 'a few days'. My approach would be to give you a full head of foils with a colour in between that's similar to your natural dark blonde. Then every 6 weeks use the same colour to do your regrowth and every 12 weeks put some more foils in and...

    Heat protection?

Is Moroccan oil a heat protector? The best I've come across in 20 odd years is the GHD heat protector, although the Matrix Total Results one is nice too.

Disloyalty / friends when building a business

I think you need to get yourself a new set of friends :)

Taking time out from doing clients to manage your business

Millie Please, please, please go careful! I own a salon, nail bar, beauty room employing 12 staff and it's always tempting to focus on your turnover rather than your profit. Before you make any decisions at all, make sure you are doing so from a position of knowledge - not just gut feeling...

    Lost a client today.....I think!

We've all had clients like these ( actually there are probably a dozen or so of them that just go round and round amongst us all!! Lol). They come in, sit in your chair and say "I've had loads of hairdressers and they can never get my hair right" or some such rubbish. What they really mean is...

Is £20 too much for a ladies cut & finish?

I know a mobile who targets wealthy, time poor women and charges a premium for her services (I think she charges around £40.00 for CBD). She often has to work evenings and weekends but that's part of her service. I also believe she gives big discounts for two or three CBDs at he same time...

Do clients think we are stupid?

I phoned a no show once and said "hi (etc etc)... You had an appointment today at (etc etc)" Her reply was... "yeah, I know but I decided to go into town 'cos I wanted a new pair of shoes." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go figure!

    Help, salon colour gone wrong!

Also... Forgot to say.... Your hair is now very porous and very unpredictable. It may reject colour or may suck it up like a sponge. DONT tone it yourself it could go really dark or greeny/grey etc etc. if you cant afford to get it sorted in the salon use a box semi that's a warm dark blonde or...

    Help, salon colour gone wrong!

Sorry Sammi but £70.00 for colour correction and cut & blow dry?? My salon charges around £30.00 for a cut and blow dry so we are not expensive by any means and for the sort of service you have described we would have charged... Colour strip £25.00 - £45.00 Full head foil and colour...

Newly qualified and complaint I need to reply

I can't agree more. I've owned a salon for the last 10 years employing around 20 stylists and I have a policy that if the client isn't staisfied then it must have been the consultation that was at fault. Whether its because the client thinks its too dark, too blonde or whatever if the result...

    Dream Age

I'm not sure about the previous post about getting the exact same result as DA-5M by mixing equal amounts of 505G and 5M. I agree that it will cover the grey hair but the base colour will be different and not really give the exact same result. It will give an approximation though, I suppose it...

    Matrix dream age!!

Ok, so everyone keeps saying how great Color Graphics are but I have never rated them and I wonder whether it's me or the product. I agree that if you are colouring virgin hair then Graphics tone out unwanted brassyness etc but who has virgin hair anymore? Very few clients. On coloured hair...

    What would u do xx

If you feel confident enough then go for it. However.... I'm not sure that anyone coming straight out of training has enough experience to deal with all the different sorts of problems that you may encounter when working alone. It's well worth getting a job in a salon for at least a year or so...

Which scissors do you use? Which do you recommend?

As an aside - related to this topic, does anyone else find that scissors under £100 tend to need sharpening more often but sharpen ok where as scissors over £100 don't need sharpening for a few years but when they're done (even with reputable sharpening services) they're useless and no longer...

Banishing the dreaded black xxl LIVE

Once you've stripped the colour out of the hair you need to pre pigment the hair with the tones that underlie the shade you are going to use in the final result. This will help the final colour to grab into the hair and will help it last longer. In my experience, if you are using a level of a...

    Prices

I've no problem with letting you know this info but it is pretty meaningless unless you take into account factors such as catchment area, overheads etc. We charge between £26.50 and £36.50 for CBD but the area is fairly poor even though our overheads are astronomical. Some people seem to equate...

    Straightening a perm?

Good advice Dee. Wash it ASAP, leave thick conditioner on and comb it as flat as possible, blow dry it as straight as possible. There's still no guarantee though! You're a good mate, that's for sure! :p:p Nick

Banishing the dreaded black xxl LIVE

I've posted on this already today. Whatever you do, even if it's only lifted to the level of a 6 after the bleach bath etc, within 2 washes the red will rinse out of the hair. Basically the client can't have what they want. You'd be better off giving good advice on why box colours are rubbish...
