hi all, I coming up to the end of the vtct man/advnails/nail art course and would like to know the best way to get into the industry. I have done clients in the college salon and also done family and friends, but dont have the experience needed for salon jobs.
My initial plan was to go mobile but i'd really like to get some salon experience first. I have been thinking of gathering a portfolio of my work and going round the salons asking if they would be able to offer me just one day a week shadowing someone, i just dont know the best way to get in, i feel like its a bit of a vicious circle...
Ive read through some of the other posts with questions similar to this one and have seen answers about renting chairs etc, but im confusing myself lol.....
I am going on to do lvl 2 beauty therapy after this course and then hopefully lvl 3....
any advice or help would be greatly apprieciated, oh i am in nottingham..... just incase anyone can recommend somewhere for me to try

thanks
leasam x

thank you for all your replies and advice it is much apprieciated. how rude...., people have viewed the thread but not one single word of encouragement......... thank you

Hi
I don't really know what advice to offer you because without your Beauty qualifications I'm not sure where you could start. I think if I were you I would go mobile and get clients who you could hopefully keep when you have level 2 and 3. I'm only just getting started myself after doing level 3 and having a baby but chin up, I'm sure someone will give you some valuable advice.
Good luck with it.
x Wendy

Leasam, it isn't that people are being rude hunny, they just may not know what advice to offer for your situation.

I think a portflolio sounds like a good idea. Put your certificates into it, any relevant information about yourself, your training, the product line you work with and lots of photos of your work. Perhaps get some impartial comments about your work also from non-related clients and go for it :)

Best of luck hun xxx

We are not being uncaring, just wanted to think through your post before answering.
1. Try offering yourself as unpaid work experience, not ideal from your point of view, but given how tough it is to get a foot in the door these days, a good start point.
2. Salon owners are more and more edgy about having their clients nicked. It is an absolute MUST that you refrain from saying your ambition is to go mobile. I never employ anyone who has ever worked mobile, or who would like to.
3 Appreciate anything a salon owner does to help you. Your original post was only 6 days ago, getting eggy because you want an answer in an instant wont endear you.
If you take that attitude into a salon, you will not get far. Nobody HAS to help you, whether it is on here or in a salon.x

I know how you feel about people not answering I feel the same. Some posts get loads of replies and I never seem to get any people view them and dont answer can get you down sometimes:cry:
