Hi all

I'm setting up a new business in June and planning to hand my notice in on Wednesday. I'm a little worried that she may not take it very well as will be quite unexpected......any advice on what to say and keep my cool if she starts mouthing me off?!?!

I'm very greatful for everything she has done for me and the experiences she has given me over the last 6 yrs and don't really want to end on a bad note.

Thanks for any advice

Firstly good luck in your new business venture, what are you planning to do?
Why would she mouth off at you?
You are not doing anything wrong!

I think I would say to her at the beginning of the day "Can you please spare me some time as I need to talk to you at the end of the day/ some point in the day"
That sound give her a bit of thinking time, as it is a serious question.
Then say "I really appreciate the experiances you have given me over the last 6 years & have really enjoyed my time working for you but feel its time for me to move on now, so unfortunatly I would like to hand in my notice"
Something along those lines sounds polite and to the point.
Worse case if she does start being a bit "mouthy" just say calm and dont shout back or stoop to her level, let her cool down. She will be ok in time!

How many weeks notice do you have to give?

If she asks you to leave immediatly, make sure you have already have got what you need!

Good luck, let us know how you get on, bet you are feeling sick with worry, roll on Wednesday!

Love Emma xxx

Hi

You know it's never easy handing in your notice especailly when your have been there for a lenght of time and you have to do what is right for you,,,,,,,, to me I always feel that someone in bisiness looks out for number one so you have to think the same.

Good luck

Kerry

Thanks Emma that all really helps very good idea to mention something at beginning of day as gives her an idea that somethings gunna happen. The only reason I think she maybe mouthy is cos I've seen how she has been to past staff when they have left and shes had a tough yr but I could be there forever if I take it to heart too much!! hmmmm breathe 1,2,3 and lots of rescue remedy I think!!! lol!

oh and Kerry very true thats what a lot of people have said to said to me....I'm sure she wouldn't think twice if she was to make me redundant!

Thanks again guys!!

ps my own salon nearly a mile away and months notice so last day will be 5th June eeeek!!

I would thank her for the opportunity she has given you and the experience you have gained because of it. Then compliment her on her management style and tell her you'd like to model your style after hers. Something to that effect.

Best of luck to you! Keep us posted. :)

Letter is written.....roll on tomorrow :Scared:

Thanks for all your advice will let you know how it goes.....hmmm I think I may put a bottle of wine in the fridge ready for my return lol!

Good luck

Well I'm pleased thats over and done with!! Why is it that when you plan what to say in your head it never comes out the same when you open your mouth?!?!! As long as all my business plans go well I'll NEVER have to do that again yipee!! :D

She was a bit shocked and was pretty frosty towards me for the rest of the day but unfortunately I expected that.....oh well each day that goes by is another towards my last day.....thank god!

Thank you so much everyone for your help and advice, your FABULOUS!!

Diane x
