Hi,
I’m new to all this so please bare with me!

I’m wanting to build a separate building in my garden to act as my salon - two story (small), but I’d like it on two levels.
Has anyone advice of what I need to do first?
Do I apply for planning permission first? Then say it’s going to be a salon?
I have no idea where to start with it?! Any advice would be greatly received!!

Thanks.

If you have a rough idea of what you’re wanting, contact your local council planning dept. for an informal chat before you take it any further.

Ordinarily, you need to have proper detailed plans drawn up by an architect or similar and then submit them to your council for planning permission. You’d need to state in your application that you intend to build a salon as otherwise your permission (if granted) will only apply to domestic use of the buildings.

Bear in mind that if you live in a residential area, permission might not be granted.

Also, if you have a mortgage on your home, you’ll probably need permission from your mortgage provider to add extra buildings to your property.
