Also have seen some courses that are 5 - 10 days what are peoples thoughts on this or should i just be looking at the acrediation for the course??

Thanks in advance

Have you got a nvq level 2 in beauty already though?

Personally I would steer well away from a course that CLAIMS to get you qualified in level 3 in 5-10 days. The theory alone is extremely tough going, then you have your electrical treatments,faradics,galvanics,G5,vaccum suction etc,you have to have a basic knowledge of electricity and you have all your spa treatments plus your dietry papers and fitness programm to devise. Also if you think the A&P is hard in level 2 it's mind blowing in level 3:eek:. I just cannot see how anybody could do this in 5-10 days and the whole thing is misleading to students.

I think there is a place for short courses IF it's a small unit and the student has some underpinning knowledge but to do a big qualification like an NVQ level 3 in such a short space of time is just totally unrealistic.

I for one wouldn't take anyone on in my salon without a formal qualification, and one that lasts 5-10 days(with such a high content of theory, practical and understanding)wouldn't even get an interview.I dont mean to sound harsh here I just know none of my friends.colleagues or myself would take anyone seriously who said they had done a level 3 in 5-10 days.

You can do the college courses in level 2 and 3 part time, personally I think college is the way to go because you have ongoing support and back up,you have to cover the units thoroughly and practice on members of the public which all contribute to your confidence when working on paying clients in a salon. This is just my opinion hth

Ps sorry if I have misunderstood your thread and you didn't mean that you were thinking of doing a level 3 in 5-10 days lol. Please note I was talking about level 2 or 3 in 5-10 days and not other short courses. Thanks xx

I have also been thinking about doing the level 3 but my local college only offer this course full time which means i would have to give up my full time job which is just not a possibility for me. I have done VTCT swedish body massage as massage is one of the units covered on level 3 which i really wanted to do. i think some of the electrical treatments are a bit old fashioned, i personally would like to do the level 3 which offers the microdermabrasion unit as i think this would be much more beneficial but i cant seem to find any colleges in my area which offer this.
Why dont you just see if you can do indiviudal certificates/units ini the areas of the level 3 you are really interested in?

The problem is with only doing individual units of a level 3 is that would not be classed as a level 3,and most salon/spas want a therapist to have a level 3.You must do the whole qualification to gain the NVQ,covering all units of the said NVQ(NVQ level 3 trains you to management standard so this is really useful if an owner wants a senior therapist, manager or someone to run the business for her/him)

You are right some fo the units are old fashioned and indeed several of them I have never usedhowever you could get a salon that does use them but has a far more advanced machine. Also when I did my training we had to have a level 2 beauty and a level 3 body massage certificate before we could enrole.

Maybe have a look at colleges a bit further afield to see if you could get on a part time one.You may have to travel but at the end of the day if you get the qualification you want then it's worth it.

Babsann yes i totally agree with everything you have said the nearest colleges i have found are literally hours away so at the moment i will have to wait. the theory side of the level 3 scares me though!!!!
