I am hoping to take an apprenticeship, and wondered if anyone has done an apprenticeship, and has any advice or could share their experiences?
Also, just any general advice for an aspiring beauty therapist :)

I'm so excited about it::green: I have done a lot of research into what the job/career entails, and it really does sound so rewarding. All the beauty therapists I've met are very happy and contented with their job, and I hope one day, I will be that happy with my job!

Anyone any experience with apprenticeships, or just training to be a beautician? I would love some firsthand knowledge and advice :)

Your not a Beautician. . . Your a beauty therapist.

a beautician is someone that works in the counters at debenhams boots etc for the big brands selling make-up

a beauty therapist actually performs the treatments :)
This is what i was told in college

Thanks - it's good to get that clear!! :)

Does anyone have any advice, or comments on what it's like to be a beauty therapist?

Just that it's a really rewarding job! It's hard to explain, if you like making people feel/look better about themselves then it's for you

Also if you love learning! There's always something new to learn!

I'm finding it hard to find any information about apprenticeships, as i live in Scotland :irked:

Ive never heard of anyone doing an apprenticeship in Beauty

It definitely does exist! :lol:I know that Saks do it, and some other places: it's just that Scotland is awful for any sort of help career-wise. if I was in England I'd be fine!

How did you get into the business then?

I was lucky as i found a job within a salon where I was then send to college to train. I used to clean, make teas, take phone calls and book clients in. As i progressed through college i then started practising within the salon while working. I was lucky as i was 26 when i started with this salon.

I had been to college when i was 16 to study hair, beauty(NVQ 2) and sweddish body massage. Unfortunatley the college tried to combine all this into 2 years (first time they had offered this) so at the end of 2 years they asked us to come back for a 3rd year. I didn't go back so gained no qualification...my biggest regret ever!!

Its hard work as you do alot of cleaning and running about but you also get to watch the therapists at work and learn so much more along side going to college...i would also say that i was in a better position at college than the other students as i had the salon experience.

Good luck

Saks will give you first class training that smaller places cannot offer, rip their arm off. Saks hair and beauty are franchised, but have mothership support. they have their own academy.

My friend did an apprentiship with saks and she loved every minute of it, i think its good beacause you do clients as you go along so you do get a good realistic view of what the industry is like!

See if anywhere can give you a taster day to get some experience on what working as a therapist is like, may be a bit of an eye opener for you!

That's what i really want/need - how would I go about getting a taster day?
