Can anyone tell me are the beauty tunics small sizes? or generous fittings? not sure what size to get

It depends where you buy from, I certainly find them to be varied. If you're looking for very small sizes, like 6, try Simon Jersey and they are very reasonable. But if you want large sizes, go to La Beeby. Both of these companies I deal with and they are brilliant, if it does not fit they will change the size for you.

Some of them come up VERY small indeed!
It was mightily disheartening to order a size 16 top and find I actually needed a 22

Couldn't agree more! I have no idea where most of these companies get their sizings from. I am normally a 16 and I thought I 'd order an 18 because I wanted it to be comfortable when i do massage. Jeez im pleased i did. The 18 only just fits and isn't very comfortable at all! I say order 2 sizes bigger if your wanting it to be comfortable. Also if you have a large chest size (im a double D) you'll have problems finding a comfortable fit

hmmm. dunno what to do now. I was going to get one off ebay as you can buy them new for a tenner including postage. but then I thought if I bought it I couldnt send it back.

So I decided to buy new. I would realy like my company name on the tunic and I found this company and you can get the tunic and the name embroidered for £18 but, if I obvisouly wouldnt be able to send it back!
Embroided Workwear Health and Beauty Uniforms

So back to square one i suppose. I think as long as I can return it to get the right size it should be ok.

I would suggest you buy a plain one from a company such as Diamond, La Beeby, Simon Jersey and once you've found which is the right size only then find someone to do the embroidery. Hell, there are a million companies out there that'll do embroidery, and in fact you're likely to find a little local business that'll do it for far less than the big boys.
