Hello,

I found out today that I have been offered a job in a hairsalon as a self-employed nail tech !

I've got to go in on monday to discuss everything.

Heres the problem, I have got no idea what I should be asking and what is acceptable or not !

At the moment I know that I wont be renting, I will pay a percentage of what I earn, wat is a good percentage to go for? I will be providing my own products.

Anybody out there who rents/works in this way got any advice or tips for me?

Any help would be greatfully received.

Im so excited and nervous, I dont want to mess up or get in any issues :)

Hi there,
I have been in your position.. and it was fine.
I am not sure what the going rate where u is for % wise.. I only paid rent once i reached $500.. But i always helped in the salon.. cleaning and washing the towels etc.. but u need to becareful that they dont become reliate on this.. as oncce u become busy.. they then lable u as "lazy" even tho u are not a direct employee..

Make sure what u agree on is in writing.. Verbal agreements are oftern "turned around" if something goes wrong..
I would also ask for a lower percentage whilst u are starting out.. It will take time to build your clients.
Put all your spare time , ( time without clients) into getting to knw the salon clients and advertising and business related things.. once u get busy u wont have a lot of time for this in the salon so take advantage of free time.
Good luck x

Thank you so much for your reply.

Im really nervous about it to be honest !

I dont know of any salons around here that rent space so I cant find out what the going % is round here.

Im going to be practising so so much this weekend:)

no advice but i just wanted to say well done on getting the job! :D you'll do fab i'm sure! x

Congrats, I'm in same boat, been offered a chair today on a rent only basis.

I haven't got a clue what I'm doing and just wanted to wish you good luck.
