Hi! I have just got a nail training hand to practice acrylics. When cutting the replacable nail tips down and filing them so I can then apply tips I'm finding it's taking me ages using a 100/180 grit file. Is it best to use an 80 grit file for filing these tips down or am I doing something wrong?

If it's just the plastic practice tips you are filing - you could use what ever grit necessary to get the job done! Generally I find it best to try and cut the practice tip to essentially the length AND shape that you want and just tidy up edges with file. I usually find a 100 fine and have used the same one for this purpose for weeks.
