Can someone tell me where is the best place to get a makeup kit for wedding makeup please

Depends what type of budget you have. As your starting out am guessing its a small budget. Are you freelance or work in a salon?

I just started to do freelance this year and am looking at specialising in bridal makeup.

I've found the Urban Decay Naked Palettes (Especially 1 and 3) are brilliant for Bridal Eye Makeup. I love Sidecar and Buck in 1 for bridal makeup and I find Naked 3 really nice for Mother of the Bride.

Foundation wise you want something that isn't going to flashback in photographs and looks natural. I really like and i've seen loads of youtubers and other Makeup Artist's use MAC Face & Body, it doesn't flashback its light but buildable and also waterproof and gives a lovely healthy glow to the skin. I also have Estee Lauder Double Wear Light for someone who wants a more heavy/matte finish. Just buy the a dark and light shade and that way you can mix them together to create the perfect shade for your client.

Try and get a pro-card for most places like MAC, you get 35% discount and it makes a huge difference. For highlighter for wedding's I use MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl or Hush. It gives a glow/sheen rather than looking glittery and I feel sometimes powder highlighters can look a little heavy/glittery on camera especially in daylight. The cream is just a bit more subtle. Or you could go for the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick I like Rose Quartz.

Blush wise, pinks and peaches are your friend, I have a couple MAC ones but if your on a budget Sleek do a palette of 3 blushes and they very pigmented.

A good nude lipliner, can't go wrong with the No7 Lipliner in Nude, Lisa Eldridge always uses it. I get it when they have the £3 off Makeup voucher. A couple nice nude lipsticks as well, I have Angel, Velvet Teddy and Ruby Woo (for a more vintage bridal look). Loads of drugstore brands have great nudes like revlon and rimmel.

A good setting powder will go along way as well, I prefer using the Chanel Loose Powder but its quite expensive but you get a huge amount and it makes the skin look amazing.

If your wanting to just get a kit from somewhere then i'd suggest MAC but try get the discount first. I wouldn't suggest buying things 2nd hand because you don't know how old the items are (could have gone off) and also if they are real (alot of the counterfit copies have dangerous ingredients in them). Its just not worth it when your dealing with clients. I knew a girl who bought some fake MAC products and used them on a customer and they had a huge allergic reaction and tried to sue her.

I use Lily Lolo mineral cosmetics for weddings and my clients love it, it gives a flawless, natural, buildable finish and has a semi matte look to it with a range of finishing powders.

I used to use bare minerals which used to cost me lots of money and it had too much of a glow about it (shiny forehead and nose) Lily Lolo is just as good as bare minerals (I have converted many people) not to mention half the price too! It also doesn't contain any oxy bismuth which can irritate skin.

Beware heavy liquid foundations like double wear which are great but can give you "flash face"in photos.

I also like powder as if there are tears or sweat it's easier to blend and correct make up or absorb sweat with a mini kabuki or concealer brush than it is to correct a big streak in liquid foundation!

Just my humble opinion!

Love this thread, I was gonna start the same one!

Great advice ladies. I agree about the bare minerals, I bought a few of these when I first started to build my kit from things like max factor and rimmel! But found the same thing with it being slightly too shimmery and makes you look even a little bit oily. Was going to buy the illamasqua skin base range as I had a tester which lasted ages as you only need a drop and the coverage is brilliant. It's more pricey than the mac f&b though so not sure which to go for as I've heard mixed reviews about Mac and eventually don't really want the foundations in my kit but if you guys think it's good then I might!

Would say contact jane Iredale as the make up is fantastic and also have excellent specialised bridal training x

I use bare minerals alot on mothers of the bride, think its lovely on a more mature skin. The drugstore is pretty good nowdays for foundations, colorstay by revlon is great for long lasting makeup and coverage. The deeper shades are amazing as well. I have the illamasqua skinbase and I don't rate it at all (on me). Its very marmite, it looks amazing on some people (i'd say its suited for more oily skin) and terrible on others. I have slightly dry skin and it showed up every single flake and looked very heavy and cakey. I don't tend to use any other foundation from Mac but face and body the rest always have horror stories of breaking people out, i've never heard of face and body or experienced it breaking anyone out. On another note it can also be used in airbrushing. Its water based so can go in an airbrush gun, its actually really nice airbrushed. You can charge alot more for airbrushed makeup and its easy to do. Alot of brides tend to buy into the whole airbrushed makeup (it's not that different than using a really good brush). It does tend to look more natural and last longer though.

Macs new neutral pallets are fantastic value and in my opinion if you got both of them would be sorted for eye shadows they are £65 each but have 15 shadows in each and ones warm tones and one is neutral x

Great thread 👌

I love make up studio pro light creme foundation comes in a pot and lasts ages and gives a flawless finish!

I've got some shades of illamasqua now along with pots of bare minerals but wanting to order a couple of mac f&b so I have more variety, what shades would anyone recommend?

Oops, dropped my phone and pressed send haha!

Was going to say also someone asked me if I use bare minerals new liquid foundation, as anyone tried these?

Tia xx

It depends how much you are going to be charging and how many you think you will do....i started off by buying bits here and there, some estee lauder, some helen ebat one of the shows - there foundation compact is great as one co,our for all and with a concealer goves great coverage but very natural. I also bought laura geller which again are dual purpose and long lasting but not expensive....now that im doing more make up i will be investing more bit so far everyone been happy with results x

I bought it to try on myself and don't rate it if I'm honest. Not enough coverage for me but if you (or clients) have nice, even skin already then it would be good for you. I have a rimmel foundation that is better and a quarter of the price!
I do have the bare minerals pressed powder foundation though and that is lovely and the coverage is fab, much better than their bare skin liquid foundation x
