Hi All

Im a bit out of touch with skin care in terms of what treatments are best for what as i mainly do make up, tans and lashes..

Can anyone update me on what would be the best treatments I could try for myself as I have wrinkles that are bothering me around my eyes and forhead..

I am looking into botox and the lovely botox geeks have sent me some info but can anyone recommend anti wrinkle treatments with proven results that i could try first or any products that you have used and seen good results with?

I dont do facials and so im a bit out of touch

Thanks all

xxxxx

Hi Tams

I can only advise that you try exfoliating at least 3 times a week (not with a harsh over the counter product) as this helps dead skin to be sloughed away revealing fresher skin beneath plus you get the blood flow going which helps to promote a brighter complexion, a regular creamy based mask will help too. a good moisturiser for your skin type is a must.

Always wear a sunblock of some kind - a minimum of 30 spf (dont forget mineral make up can help provide this too so not necessarily has to be creams etc), the products should contain titanium oxide and / zinc oxide to give you the best broad spectrum cover - i.e uva, uvb & uvc (and this includes winter time too).

Try wearing a serum beneath your moisturiser that contains Vit a, c and e - these will ensure your cell turnover is regular, you are provided with some free radical protection and moisturising. There are eye products that can provide these, wearing a eye cream or gel twice daily will really help to provide moisture thus helping with wrinkles.

I have had botox in the past and I love it but I now just have it on my forehead as I found it made me look worse around my eyes, I have now learned to accept these laughter lines as part of me

How about trying some non surgical face lifts - a course of this can help to regenerate the muscle tone, however, the others that you can try (and I personally adore) are microdermabrasion and skin peels, these all help to promote healthier and smoother skin texture and tone. Also, regular facials can help as this keeps your skin feeling better and a good therapist will help you to decide what products will be best for you.

HTH a little bit

Hi Tams

If you are looking to alleviate wrinkles around eyes and forehead, then I can categorically tell you NO cream in the world will do this - regardless of what claims may be made. This is medical FACT. I know some geeks will disagree with me on this one - the advise you take is up to you. Botox is excellent for reducing wrinkles, as you know, and completely safe if administered correctly. Maybe an alternative would be a chemical peel, but again you would need to look at a medium depth medical grade peel to have much impact. Medical Microdermabrasion can also be effective, in combination with a peel, but in all honesty - cost and convenience I would suggest botox, from what you describe. Or you could just accept them as part of you and be happy with that - just don't expect any cream to work the same - it won't. Hope that helps X

New tests are showing that the long term effects of Botox are brain damage. Have you tried microdermabrasion or microcurrent?

i would suggest skin peels and microdermabrasion !

I had some microdermabarasion a few weeks ago, and didnt like it, its left me with heavily pigmented marks all around my eyes :( I'm now paying loads to get these removed with skinceuticals gel peel and looking at lazer therapy too in the long run. the peels seem to be working and made my skin alot smoother, and got rid of all the old acne marks. so annoyed at myself for trying the microdermabrasion.

Thanks for all of your replies guys.. a lot of food for thought for me..

I need to do some research into all my options I will deffinitly try your advice OGT - most helpful thank you

I havent tried microdermabrasion im a clense tone and moisturise girl - I have tried anti wrinkle creams but not with any real results to shout about..

I have been thinking of botox for a while and so I will look into all my options and STAY OUT OF THE SUN! :)

Thanks again if anyone else has any views i'd love to hear them.xx

I beleive microcurrent is the only way to go!! You can blast your skin surface with microdermabrasion treatments, apply whatever cream you can lay your hands on, which only make the skin surface appear smoother temporarly. Botox injections? I used to have a botox/filler nurse using my my salon, seen alot of her work and am totally unipressed as were my clients (plus i firmly beleive the long term effect of such injections will be horrendous!) Microcurrent treatments wil lymph drain the area you are treating (releasing toxins from tissue surrounding the muscle), eliminating dark circles, puffiness etc (if you are treating eyes). Then you stimulate, the muscles within that area, tightening and toning, which softens and smoothes away wrinkles. I perform this treatment on myself and have done for many years, I am now middle aged  without a winkle in sight:lol: xxx

Have you looked into Environ?

They offer some excellent products and when combined with their electrical facials get great results. Their eye gel is amazing.

To find a local salon check here -IIAA or you can google for your local area.

Yes, Environ products a brill combined with microcurrent!! I use them and Algologie too, results are amazing xx

Thanks guys

I have been looking into all kinds of exciting options xx

may I suggest if you were totally unimpressed then why continue with this particular professional? If the results were not that effective then why does it continue to be the No 1 cosmetic procedure in Europe! The results from my patients are outstanding! That is why they continue to come to my MediSpa - and have done for years.

As to long term effects being horrendous - Utter rubbish. Sorry, but you are incorrect. At least be accurate - releasing toxins from tissues?!? - please do your research.

For me Environ is the best solution. Vitamin A can improve your wrinkles a lot. But you have to be prepared to wait a little, it takes some time to work. You have to stick with it even if your skin gets a bit dry or spotty, it is normal to develop a slight reaction to vit A when you start using it. The other thing you can go for is Retin-A it is a very strong acid form of vitamin A. You can't buy it from shop you have to see a dermatologist and you need a prescription. It is very strong and not every skin can take it. But the results you get with it are amazing. Botox works well too.

Whooops! Apologies for not being word perfect miss picky pants! You have your opinion and I have mine... :Grope:

obviously others share my opinion too xx

I have been having botox for years, 8 years in fact, I worked in the clinic for two years as the doctors PA. There has been tonnes of specualtion over the years about what long term effects botox has, but if you read up on it, the amount of botulism in the 'Botox' is minute.

Botox has been used for over 20 years for excessive sweating, it is also successfull in treating people with muscular disorders, I have seen the most contorted and uncomfortable people brought in the clinic in wheel chair being able to walk from the surgery after a course of treatment. In some cases to me and the patient it was like a miracle, the pain and discomfort of their disability minimised to that level was amazing.

The fact that the muscles are paralised by botox was a side effect which was picked up on and utilsed in the way we know it today and in the literature I have read for the last 8 years in medical journals, I have never known any adverse effects.

I have no forehead wrinkles, no crows feet and no frown lines, which is what I had before, I go once every 6 months as the effects lessen and look at is as 'maintenance'. The treatment is a pin prick or ten of pain, I can walk out feeling unblemished and withing 2 - 3 days I can see the results, i do not look stunned and can still use all my facial expressions, the only thing I can not do is frown......a very negative expression in my opinion!!

I have also had dermal filler in my nasolabialial folds and the result took years off my face.

I would recommend either of these treatments to anyone and all I can say is go to a qualified doctor if you are worried, I receive treatment from a qualified dermatologist who has year and year of training and experience as a GP and specialised in skin.

Worth every penny!

We use OXYjet in our salon and clients get very good results. It's not invasive and you can get a quick fix with a one off treatment and lasting effects with regular treatments and aftercare products.

Ultimately if you combine it with a healthy diet, lots of water, drinking in moderation and avoiding smoking and sun, you are going to get better results and keep looking younger for longer, as Keith Richards told me once .

I actually did my dissertation on something like this at university, and as i said new studies have shown the long term effects may cause brain damage.

thats just one of many articles from google but more academic sites have loads.

If you did your dissertation did you include that the study was undertaken on lab rats (who have different chemical make up neurologically to humans), and that the toxin was NOT pharmaceutical grade - there are numerous different types of botulimum toxin. BOTOX is a trade name and actually NOT the compound used in the study. The dosage was actually 100 x greater than for cosmetic use that was used. The amount and type of toxin used for cosmetic use is totally different and miniscule in comparison.

Botulinum has been used for decades as therapeutic use (not just cosmetic) in the NHS to treat a number of neuro-muscular conditions extremely successfully. Your argument is flawed - as was your dissertation. Submit it to a medical journal and it would not reach print - that I can guarantee. Not being a smarty pants, or quoting my opinion - just medical facts based on valid research. X:smack: (I can do smilees too)!
