Hello!
Have some difficulties in making the right decision, so was hoping to find some help here.
In order to cut expenses i need to decide between clear gel and s-gel. Wich one would you chose to use as the base layer for NNOs (both colour and french)? I know that it is better to have them all and eventually i'm planning to buy them.
I have the sealer gel for the final and just can't decide with the base layer.
What would you advise according to your experience?
Any help appreciated!
Regards

As far as I was aware S-Gel could not be used on the natural nail as it does not have a flexible finish. I think I would personally stick to using the clear gel and use the sealer gel to finish. I know in the short term it is more of an outlay, but I find I get through lots of S-gel as I use it to build and to finish, therefore using a thin layer of clear at the beginning and using a sealer to finish would result in less being used, only keeping the s-gel for building.

I am fairly new to bio also, so I am only going by what I have learnt so far, either by trial and error and through this website. So if I am wrong then please forgive me.

Hi

S-Gel cannot be used on the natural nail - as a base that is. It will just peel off the nail. Only use S-Gel as a sealer/finish layer or to build an upper arch.
Clear should be used as the base coat. I know some Bio techs who use Sealer Gel as a base for French to stop yellowing. I have not yet had a problem with yellowing but I know it exists.

To be honest, I think you need all - Clear, S-gel and Sealer as they serve different puropses in one treatment, having said that i don't tend to use my sealer very often. I'll tell you what i use.

French NNO
Base - Clear (some use Sealer here)
2 coats White
S Gel to finish (some use sealer here too)
Clear PolishTopcoat (sometimes)

Anyway, I hope this helps:)

I have found that the best for the base is the Royal gel. it has a u-v protector in it and helps with the yellowing problem. I use that as my base and then once over french and finish with the S-gel. I find that works the best for me. But definitely don't use the S-gel as the base, like previously mentioned it will just peel off.

Hope that was some help, good luck!

I have never heard of Royal Gel - What is that?

Many thanks for all your replies!!
all of them are very helpful for me!

:D

Royal Gel is used mainly as a base. it cures clear but in the jar it has a blue tint to it from the u-v protectant. As far as I know it's one of the newer gels I've only been working with it for 2 years.

In the UK royal gel is known as sealer gel.

oh, ok. sorry for the confusion!:)

No problems Emily, no need for apologies - I see you are a newbie geek. I only realised about the royal gel and sealer gel being the same from a previous thread where a similar thing was discussed.

Just out of curiosity - where is Kitchener?

And welcome to the salon geek by the way - have you seen the Bio Sculpture group that is set up for us Bio techs?

I thought it was that when i looked at the website. Also can you always use this as a base or just for French. I thought about just using this and not the clear, but wasn't sure.

And I was wondering where Kitchener was too lol. :)

I have used the sealer gel many times as the base layer with no problems but I do like the adhesion that the clear gel provides.

So there will be no harm if i use the sealer as the base and the top layers?
And how does it work in the long term? Can it damage the nails?

Sorry for so many questions :o...

Thanks

Damage the nails? Not sure what you mean by that.

With most systems I know it is not the products that can potentially damage the nail but either the way it was applied/removed by the tech or the way it is removed by the clients.

If the client was to constantly pick any of the Bio gels off the nails then yes the nail plate will become damaged.

Thanks for the welcome!

Kitchener by the way is in Southern Ontario in Canada (1hr from Toronto)
