Hi everybody,

I'm trying to figure out which are the differences between these two big brands.
I have been reading on the Internet that Calgel is an excision from BioSculpture and that both gel systems work similarly.

However I would like to know the expert opinion of those who have tried and worked with them.

Thank you :)

I've used both and they only similarity is that they both have the same consistency and they are both soak offs, from there... they are very different gels. I prefer Bio Sculpture, it doesn't yellow, it doesn't lift and it has a wonderful colour selection.

Hi Gigit and thanks for your reply.

In which ways are they different? Aren't both self-leveling? they way you should work them with the brush? Please tell me :)

Thanks.

I have no lifting with Calgel at all and havent for a long time, any lifting i ever had was down to my application full stop but i now know the product so well i never ever have lifting, i have clients go 6 weeks with the gel still stuck fast although most do come every 3 to 4 weeks.Bios colour range is better.I believe that the whites all yellow?discolour on most soak off gels unless preventative steps are taken Calgel has their calcrystal top coat and superclear gel also clients are advised aftercare.

Calgel yellows. I've never had Bio Sculpture yellow and the white stays white. Most of my clients go 3-4 weeks between fills.

As i said without preventative measures. I believe bios is S gel which prevents yellowing and calgel has superclear Gel.

Im not getting into calgel is better than bio and vice versa because eventhough i use Calgel i have a great respect for bio and do not think its inferior in anyway, but Calgel is a great product and does not lift anymore than bio if applied properly.

None of these gels are as easy as everyone thinks to last and perform at their best they need good prep and they needd to be applied just right.Too thin they will not cure propely onto the nail too thick and without capping they will not adhere to the nail Properly.

Dry prep is the best thing for Calgel and also the first layer needs to be wiped well onto the nail before you do your finer finish before curing.

They also need good aftercare.Oiling as with all enhancements is important especially as they have to be soaked off and the gel is flexible othewise naildamage can be a problem.Directly i take off i can tell whos been oiling or not.

Also they will absorb Cigarette smoke, curries etc so clients need to be aware of this.

Hi
I use calgel fantastic gel product, the girls at calgel are great and always very helpful if you run into problems.Good customer service and someone at the end of a phone is always a bonus. I also took ages to decide when choosing between calgel and bio. I like calgel because you can overlay and sculpt with the same clear gel and the colour gel goes straight onto the nail no need for a base gel or bonder. Can't comment on bio though as I have never used it but sure it is also a great product:lol:

Does Bio Sculpture gels need of different gels to build up an enhancement?

Great Answers and info, Thanx! Please Keep commenting, but please do not quarrel about which one is best or better.

You can with Bio....just use the original gel. It can be used for everything, however they also produce a range of gels, each with their own 'specialist' characteristic, such as extra strenght, extra flexibility or UV filters, to be able to be more prescriptive to the clients nail type.

the colour gel goes straight onto the nail no need for a base gel or bonder.

Again, you can do this with Bio, but they recommend a clear layer for extra strength and to give something for techs to file to, if infilling, to protect the natural nail. Nothing is needed as a bonder for adhesion purposes. On toes, you always apply straight on with colour.

I think Gillian has it spot on....they are both superb gels, neither lift unless really abused by the client, both soak off super quick, and are very similar, just each with it's own little nuances. I personally prefer Bio, primarily because I feel it has a more well known brand in the UK (open more or less any womens health or wellbeing magazine nowadays and Bio will have an advert in it!), but it's a close call on the gel itself.

You just need to see what suits your business, locality and way of working better.

I heard that Calgel is self-leveling, and to do so you have to make the gel wave sideways as well as place your hands up-side-down to create the stress curve. However someone was telling me recently that you have to do (or you can do) this with most of those gels with the same runny-like consistency. And I presume that Bio works in the same way as Calgel.

Is this info correct?

and one more question... I was reading once in this same website about super-clear Calgel, which it is and only can be used as a final top coat. However once I was chatting on the internet with a Japanese girl who works with it and she told me she uses the super-clear one as if it was clear... If this possible or is she just pulling my leg?

many thanx for those answers so far ;-)

The main reason I swapped from Calgel to Bio is that Calgel suggest putting a small amount their violet gel into the clear to stop the yellowing, my argument with them was that if they know this will stop the yellowing prob why cant they mix this in as standard instead of me having to pay another x amount for a seperate colour that I wont ever use apart from puttin in the clear ???:irked:

I have to say it was a good change for me as I prefer Bio all round also I like the fact that Bio isnt as sticky as Calgel.

You do not have to do any of that but you can eventually you find different ways to do things for different nails situations etc.Yes the gel is self leveling.
I do not really see the point of using superclear on its own it is a harder gel takes longer to cure and does not soak off as quickly. It also has a purple tinge to it so use too much say in french and your clients nails will look too blue. You definately cannot use it instead of the ordinary clear as it doesnt have the same properties.

i had my nails done once (when i was feeling lazy!) and i had calgel overlay, and she used the same pot throughout the whole process, on the lid it just said 00 was that the correct way of doing it? was that the superclear? they lasted just 3 weeks

The larger pot of Calgel (25g?) has code 00 on it. I had the same question for them when I ordered it and wanted to make sure it was the regular as I really like it for the 30 sec curing time.
