hi there
this is my first year of trading, im still building up my portoflio and kit - have 5 firm bookings for summer weddings and several enquiries for winter
im happy with this, as i wanted to break myself in gently before really going for it next year, with the launch of a web site and paid advertising etc ..
the problem is i need to put together a kit to cover all eventualities but dont want to go too mad until im really busy IYSWIM - im currently using my training kit which includes pro makeup from screenface, makeup forever etc .. and have added products inlcuding e/s and blush palettes from MAC, Bobbi Brown, Clinique and Chanel
i just worry that i havent got enough, and the client will think im an amature - can i ask what you have in your kit ie. how many palettes, lipsticks etc .. and how you built up your kit from scratch?

i have crushed my lipsticks into a japonesque palette, but its only half filled again, this worries me .. but as i only have a handful of bookings so far for this year i dont want to spend a fortune on lippies, particularly as i seem to have been using the same 5 or 6 nudes and pinks for bridal work

if you're concentrating on bridal for now, stick to e/s palettes of warm, neutrals/browns/taupes for now and the nude/pinky lipsticks. A few blushers, water proof mascaras, liners and eye pencils.

You'd only need a really big/diverse kit if you want to break into fashion, editorial, shows etc. I'm a mua and I have an extensive kit, but I never take it all around with me. Based on my brief, I take what I think I'll need and a take a tiny bit extra for eventualities. If you've done a trial with the bride to be, then you won't really need to take a lot with you on the day and trust me no-one notices how big your kit is, so long as you get the job done.

Personally for me, I think you have a kit big enough for bridal work at the moment. In winter you might want to consider adding some smokier/slightly deeper colours.

In terms of money, make sure you have your discount cards. MAC do one which gives you 35% off, Screenface do one (think its 20% off), Sallys do one - not sure how much discount, Bobbi Brown and Shu Uemura also do discounts as well. MUFE is cheaper across the channel, so I've been told :)

Hope this helps.
Good luck!
