Hi, sorry if I sound really silly but am in the middle of practising for my assessment, but am abit unsure during the prep if I am to buff the shine off the natural nail before applying the gel, or just sanitise. And am also unsure if I am to buff after I have to done the colour, I thought it was to apply colour then s-gel then top coat. But when I read the manuel it says to buff after the clear is applied if necessary, is that if someone has nails that are bumpy?

Hi Hajam

Your not sounding silly, it's all a bit confussing to start with!! I would take the natural shine off the nail with the blue side of your orange/blue buffer and then dual cleanse. If I was to do a straight colour overlay I would do a coat of clear then 2 coats of colour followed by either sealer gel or s-gel depending on the finish, but remember s-gel will need to cure for 4 mins to bring it to a high shine. The only reason I would buff in between would be if you apply s-gel after your 1st coat of clear to sandwich the layers due to imperfections and then continue with your colour overlay.

It will all fall into place after a bit, I was in exactly the same position a couple of months back, and I was forever getting my manual out.

Hope the assesment goes well.

Thank you so much, it certainly is confusing, but I'm loving learning it all.

I don't suppose you mind saying how you would do a French. I've just done, 1 layer of clear, 2 layers of white and then 1 layer of S-gel, when would I put in a pink, would it be before the first layer of white or after the white?

You can either do a clear french which is what you have done or you can do a pink french where by after the 1st layer of clear you then do a layer of pink (no.87) and then 2 layers of white and finish with your searler or s-gel. Good luck.
