The need to regulate our industry is clear; how we go about doing that is less clear. In an attempt to do this, Habia have launched professional registers for the beauty, nail and spa industry and Urban Retreat are among the first to sign up.

“It is the right time for an independent register to provide clarity over who is competent to administer treatments and who is not," explains Jo Harris of Urban Retreat in London.

Other salons signing up include Laguna Spa in Wales, Blythswood Square in Scotland and Natural Beauty in Northern Ireland. All salons have voluntarily chosen to register its staff, all of whom who have met the criteria developed by an independent group and Habia's expert forum.

When it comes to regulating the industry, the biggest obstacle is consumer awareness afterall, what is the use of a register if the public don't know it's there to check anything against. Habia's registers are accessible to the general public if, of course, they know where to find them.

The three registers for beauty, nails and spa professionals have been developed to help raise professional and quality standards as well as boost consumer confidence. To find out more visit Habia on stand L42 at Professional Beauty London ExCeL on February 23-24, 2014.

Until then...geek on!
