Hi Everyone,
I'm currently working as a mobile nail technician in England specialising in Calgel & am looking to emigrate to Norway and work as a nail technician over there but was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience with nails as a whole or Calgel in Norway? I don't believe Calgel is in Norway -yet from my research but I may be wrong? I also have found out that there are not half as many nail salons in Norway as in England. If anyone is working as a nail technician in Norway do you work from a salon or mobile and what nail systems do you offer?
Do you think if I took Calgel to Norway and offered it as a mobile tretament it would get much success? I will be moving to Sandnes near Stavanger. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
Lisa

I would ring Calgel and ask them. When I set up my account they told me I was the only one in my area doing it!

They should be able to give u help on that front xx

Hiya,

Yes, that's right, I am in Norway. :)

And yes, Calgel is in Norway. Icelady, she's a member here, but don't write much, is the Norwegian distributor. She's a very good friend of me and is based in Bergen (about 3-4 hours with car from Sandnes).

Nope, there aren't as many nail-salons in Norway as there are in UK, BUT the population here is only 4,5 million people. Compared with that, I think there are as many nail-salons per. person here that's there are in UK. (London has a population of 11 million I think.... something to think about...:))

The credit-crunch has hit Norway too, and I have heard of several nailtechs whose planned on opening salons who just don't dare to. I would say that if you are GOOD, you will always manage to make business here, but that's the same in every aspects of business, not only nails...:)

I know Bio is located in Sandnes and because of that, there are lots of Bio-techs in that area.

When are you planning on moving? I assume you are going with your family? Do you have friends here? Do you have children? If you have children you will be surprised on how different the "children-culture" is from UK. When we moved to Liverpool I thought it would be the same, but I was wrong... It took us a while to pick up how to get friends etc... for our son. :)

Don't hesitate to write me, I'll help you as much as I can.

:hug:C.

Thanks for the replies,
Oh so would we order through Icelady instead of Calgel?
Yes the population size is quite a difference!!!!
My husband and I were supposed to move over in November but his job fell through last minute so it was put off for a while but we are hoping this spring.
My uncle married a Norwegain lady and therefore moved to Norway about 20 years ago and they now have three Norwegian children (my cousins) I have been visiting them in Norway for years and have always loved the country. My husband and I have also gone skiing the last few years in Sirdal, we don't have children yet but have decided we would rather make a life and have children and raise children in Norway instead of England.
So did you move to Liverpool from Norway and then go back to Norway... I bet it was a huge shock!
Also I am aware that things as a whole generally cot more in Norway than England but roughly how much would a gel set of nails be? I believe acrylic is about £90-why is this so expensive?

Thanks again for the replies

Hiya,

Yes, you will have to order through Icelady (her company is called "Frøken Reykjavik").

Yes, we moved from Norway to Uk and back again. We lived in Liverpool for a year. My husband and our son lived there while I commuted every week as I had to keep my salon.

It wasn't that bad moving. In fact I miss Liverpool and UK very much. I would love to move back again!

The prices of gel-nails varies a lot here. You can get it from 30 pound and to 149. I take 149 pound (well, it depends on the exchange rate, the pound is very week now...:)) (It's 1490,- NOK) for a full set p/w and 99 Pound for reballance. I think my prices are in the "high-end". I think the normal price is about 70-90 a set and 50-70 for reballance.
