That's not the point. Doug is a wonderful chemist, but he is neither a biologist nor an epidemiologist. Whether the specifics of this case are accurate or not, nail salons have been dealing with issues of sanitation, hygiene, and allergies since before COVID-19 and this will only amplify people's existing concerns. We work in a very close physical relationship with our clients and we all know that there are large numbers of salons that don't maintain proper procedures. I would not be surprised to find (other) cases of community spread among a variety of salon services. The question is - what is the profession going to do about it? Where is the leadership? Saying that this case isn't true is not sufficient. If we are a profession, it is incumbent upon us to fix the problem rather than wait for some regulation or law to be imposed upon us. We knew this was coming - if it wasn't COVID-19, it would be/could still be something else. When are we going to act like professionals and clean up our act ourselves?
