Hi I'm thinking of adding waxing to my mobile tanning business as I'm finding it very slow and have found that capital do a training course near me and was wondering if anyone has done this course and if they recommend it??

I have been dealing with Capital with a view to using their training rooms to offer Flirties courses. On speaking to the girls there I feel their courses are centred on product sales rather than offering a good standard of training. Some of the girls providing the training at Capital have no salon experience either.

I think you are best to find a trainer who is genuinely interested in offering you training, ongoing support and has day to day experience of being in a salon environment.

Just my Opinion. OH, and the girls in Capital are all lovely.

As far as I'm aware Capital only really offer a space for anyone to rent to offer the classes. The trainers are not employed by Capital, they're just providing the venue. As such there is no consistency in the training, some Trainers are brilliant, some not so much. Personally I agree with Elliebee and would suggest finding a waxing specialist. Better to pay once for good training than pay twice for poor.

Our very own geek Kim Lawless has a massive following and nothing but great feedback. Use the search option on her to find her

Just to clarify Trinity, Capital do offer their own training (well, our local one does anyway). But I get the impression it is just a marketing day really, to sell products. There is no real desire to provide comprehensive or ongoing training. It is a one day "here's your certificate, here's your trade card, here's the shop"! LOL

Your comment "Pay once for good training, pay twice for poor" is spot on. As so many posts on here prove EVERY DAY! x

I've done two courses at capital and my experience couldn't have been further than what you've described. The courses I did would have been a one day wherever I did it so chose capital due to keeping travel times down and various other reasons. The first course went into lots of depth and was watched very closely while doing practical work. We were told time and time again that we could call ( and given trainer and co numbers) with any questions also that we could go onto Facebook site. We were also told if we struggled after leaving we could infect attend a second one as a refresher free of charge, I fact one of the girls on my first course there was doing exactly that. The second course the educator had a smaller group and really tried to get to know our individual needs and had lots of 1-1. I'm actually going back next month for a course to build on knowledge I already have from training from another co.
We were shown various brands told the differences and also told to research others that they didn't use. And asked to share our experiences if we'd used the products before. The only time we were taken onto the shop floor was after lunch the room was changed for models and so due to lack of space was invited to get fresh air use toilets and if we wanted to look around shop- absolutely no pressure!
All my other training has been with my local college and with two training academy's both with very high standards and fantastic reputations.
Personally I think completing training at capital or similar on a one day course or similar is only suitable for certain courses and ideally if you already have a beauty background. But I really wouldn't slate the training. The training is done by a company ( forget the name now) who do not work on the shop floor and both the educators I had had a beauty background in either education, salon ect.
Hope this helps

I trained in acrylics at capital.

The tutor filed straight through my plate with a 100grit file [emoji15]

Any nail tech in their right mind wouldn't go near a natural nail with a 100 grit file!
Turned out the trainer wasn't actually trained in l&p just tip & dip
Which is completely different.

How she was allowed to
Teach is beyond me!
It's taken over a year for my nails to return to normal.
So I wouldn't recommend them at all.

You'd be better off with brand specific training for your chosen system. In my opinion.

I've had to pay out all over again to retrain properly. x

We was struggling getting clients to rebook our waxing treatments even thou our new waxing clients was growing. My therapist at the time had done female intimate waxing at capitals, I choose to do my waxing training speed & female intimate with Kim Lawless, after reading reviews about her courses. It was the best decision that I have ever made and cannot recommend it enough! I did my female intimate waxing course two weeks ago and had the confidence to start on paying clients straight away. Clients have been asking me to rebook before I even get the chance to ask! It was so worth doing and any therapists I take on in the future is being sent to Kim!

Cheeky chick I agree with you about the nail course as I think it should be more than a day there's a lot to learn! Even the college courses aren't great. That's what I meant by certain courses.
