Changing business name

Hi Geeks,

Iv finally managed to find a nail bar in a new salon 5 mins from my door to rent part time for now and i want to change my business name! Has anyone done this before? How do i notify HMRC? Do i just call them or is there a form i have to fill in? Also would my business bank account charge me for changing the name on the account?Im with RBS xxx

Hi,

I'm almost certain there's a box to fill in on the self assessment form for you to fill in a change of business name. However, it wont do any harm, just to give HMRC a telephone call .

A change of business name will mean you'll have to open a new bank account and close your old, but if your bank offers a period of free banking, for new accounts, you should be entitled to it again. I've never been charged to open and close bank accounts
