Is it just me or is it something we have to work against, but do you find it hard working on a client with Arthiritus in there hands?

One of my maturer ladies has Arthiritus and some times I struggle to file them , because her fingers are tense and bent.I dont know much about the disease , she is my first client with it,but I dont want to sound and old nag expecting her to straightened/relax her fingers for me all the time , is this the same with anyone else?

Ive got a really bad client and all her's are solid as they have all fused together its really hard but do as much as u can regarding moving her fingers and my client tells me when its hurting then we move on and do another and so forth till there all done.. if the client was in that much pain they wouldn't be having therer nails done x x

TBH hun, there isn't a lot that she can do about it. It can be quite difficult or in some cases impossible for someone with arthritis to straighten their fingers. You just have to work with them and around them. Often heat and massage will help ease it a little so you could try starting with the massage if you were finding it really hard.

Don't worry though, just ask her. She knows what she can/ can't do. HTH xx

I did a natural gel overlay on my Nana who has a condition in her little fingers and ring fingers, can't remember what its called but its not arthritis, its caused her fingers to be really rigid.... it was incredibly difficult to do her overlay, i had to hold the UV lamp in some awkward positions and it probably took longer than it should.... but she absolutely loves having her nails done so it was worth the extra 'hassle' and made her feel a whole lot better :)

I don't suffer from arthritis specifically, but I do have a severe joint condition in my hands. I know that this makes my fingers tense and stiff when having my nails done, and I have been a source of great frustration to my tech. However, she realises why this is, and does start to put my hands into slightly different positions that are bearable for me, and easier for her to work with.

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do, as your client cannot change how she holds her hands, but do remember that having her nails done is a treat and a pampering experience for her. It may be painful to have done, but when your hands are painful, and sometimes swollen or bent, it's nice to know that part of them look pretty.

Try to talk to her, and find out what is most comfortable for her. Often, heat helps to ease such conditions, so heated mitts or a paraffin wax before the treatment starts might help to relax her.

I have had a couple of clients with arthiritis and you just need to be patient and calm with them. I try not to make too big a deal of the difficulty in filing or polishing their nails as I don't want to embarrass them or make them even more tense.
