Hi there guys!! I was just wondering if you could give me some advice please..

I want to compete using my Brisa gel at Birmingham next weekend..

I have never competed before so I believe I would register for the newcomers one.. I haven't had much practise really with enhancements due to allergies stopping me from dedicating time to practise..

I am unsure if it would just be a total waste of money as I still have a lot to learn with enhancements and if I don't really have a good chance of coming in the top 3, then maybe it is a waste of time and money?

Also, do you have to file them a specific shape.. Square for the end result or..??

Thanks guys, and sorry if my questions are dumb!!

I have never competed either. My plan was to start competing next year. I decided to go to London for nailympics just to have a look, and suddenly I had decided to enter the gel comp... I have been thinking that one time has to be the first, so why not now... At first I thought it was not a good idea, but after talking and discussing it with some geeks, I thought: "What the ***, at least i get a score-sheet after, and then I know what to work with for next year!" AND as it's such a big competition, I know I don't have a chance to place myself, I rather be very happy if I don't come last! :)

For me, I think it's a great opportunity to see and feel how it is to compete. No matter which place I get, I will be over the moon for just doing it and I know I will be relieved as soon as I am finished.

The nails has to be quite long and square. You have to read the rules for your competition, whether you have to do both hands p/w. Usually one hand has to be painted red. Some times you have to use the red you've been given, and some times you bring your own red.

Good luck!

C.

Great, thank u hun!!
I want to compete using gel, and I also want to do the photographic entry but have just lost all imagination as to what to include in the piccy!!

I'd better decide quickly though whether I will be doing them both, to save money on the fees!!

Hi sarah, there are a couple of geeks on here that do gel comps, the only two I can think of though are oceana (clare), and pinkflush (nina ?)

I'm sure there are pics on here of thier winning nails, if you go on geek gallery there is a comp picture gallery there too, hth .

Hope to see you there, I'm doing top tech L&P, top tech nail art and salon nails xxx

There's also tricky (Vicky) who has got pictures of winning gel nails on here xx

I would also suggest you to give it a go as it is a good way to improve your skills and see what you can do better for the next time... plus you'll be surrounded by other techs and usually the atmosphere is nice and you can learn a lot really!!

but if you think you're not good enough, then don't waste time and money, get there if you think you can win... because half of the job is in your head! îf you think you0re not gonna make it then you probably won't, whereas if you think "yeah I know what I'm worth" then you will give the best you can and then have no regrets ;);)

see what I mean?

Yes, I am going the newcomers gel comp..

I am VERY very nervous though as I know I have got a lot more experience and knowledge to gain yet as I haven't actually done many 'real peoples' nails really!

I hope that I may have a slight chance of winning though due to me entering the newcomers category, but I also know that there will be many experienced and brilliant techs entering the same category!!

Ooooh no!! Stressing!!

Good luck honey.

Go for it it's one of the best things I have ever done.
Great experience and learning curve.

Ooooh no... After deciding to compete, then changing my mind about a hundred times, I am now competing tomorrow in Birmingham!!!

Don't know why.. I have not really practised with smiles enough and will no doubt look a fool, but like everyone says, it will be an experience and a learning curve so... :green:

See some of you geeks tomorrow???!!
