Hiya:lol:I am new here so please be gentle.

I have been unemployed for about 4 years and I feel as though I need to get a job.

However, I am planning on doing an evening class at college studying NVQ2 in Beauty Therapy this September. So in the meantime I need to find a job to save up.

I would like a job in the beauty industry so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks:hug:

what kind of job are you looking for?

Hi am looking for a job within a salon doing reception duties.

Hey there welcome to the site.

Its quite hard to get a job in beauty before you have experence, unless you are working for yourself in some way & then you would need a qualification of some kind to get insurance. Salons tend to prefer employing people who are already at college. It may be worth asking around to see what they say though.

Good luck with your course, if you get stuck you can always ask the geeks for help.

I understand for some salon roles I will need experience. If I do get stuck on the course I will definately ask you geeks:lol:

Do you think a salon would take me on as a receptionist?

Possibly
it may be a good idea to speak to your college tutor and ask if she knows of any salons needing a receptionist, or any salons that would take you on a placement

I was planning on getting a placement when I go to college, but really wanted a job in a salon prior to going to college.

my friend has a job on salon reception and is neither a hairdresser or therapist and has no intention of being either and the salon she work for are the biggest and most sucsessful salon in town offering all the top up to date treatments

I think it's quite difficult to get a job when you have been out of work for a while, I know it's wrong, but employers want to see your work experience and track record, whatever you personal circumstances.

As a small business myself, I couldn't afford to pay a full time receptionist, we take it in turns to answer the phone...

Could you do it on a voluntary work experience basis, reception for a few hours a week.....which will give you a great insight to the business and also managing the book, which will be a major factor in your new career?
