Tickled Pink!

i was stopped by a woman in my village whilst out walking. she knows i am a nail tech and asked me whether i could apply enhancements to her nails (obviously not there and then! :lol . She has never had enhancements before. All of them were what i consider to be ideal nail 'candidates', not bitten, large nail bed etc...apart from ONE. She had even less than 1/4 of her own nail and what was there (if it could be described as a nail!) looked very crumbly and very uneven. i personally haven't seen anything like this before - could it be onycholysis? I asked her if this nail had ever been subjected to trauma but she says no and it has been like this for years. None of this was during a consultation, just whilst walking and chatting. However, i did say an enhancement on this nail was a no-no but would like to point her in the right direction - ie., the doctors!
can anybody advise 1) what this is likely to be 2) should the doctor refer her to a specialist 3) any thing else i/she should know.
thanks in anticipation
