i was stopped by a woman in my village whilst out walking. she knows i am a nail tech and asked me whether i could apply enhancements to her nails (obviously not there and then!) . She has never had enhancements before. All of them were what i consider to be ideal nail 'candidates', not bitten, large nail bed etc...apart from ONE. She had even less than 1/4 of her own nail and what was there (if it could be described as a nail!) looked very crumbly and very uneven. i personally haven't seen anything like this before - could it be onycholysis? I asked her if this nail had ever been subjected to trauma but she says no and it has been like this for years. None of this was during a consultation, just whilst walking and chatting. However, i did say an enhancement on this nail was a no-no but would like to point her in the right direction - ie., the doctors!
can anybody advise 1) what this is likely to be 2) should the doctor refer her to a specialist 3) any thing else i/she should know.

thanks in anticipation

Hi

I have two clients with nails like you describe. One client damaged hers in an accident and was lucky only the nail ended up prmanently damaged. As it is not inflamed or red and irritated, I cover it with flawless pink, having sculpted a new free edge. She is very happy with the results.

The other client is elderly and had a habit of biting a thickened thumb nail. Again I sculpted the free edge and used flawless pink over the damaged area. This nail has recovered well and I no longer infil using flawless pink just use perfect colour pink acrylic. Both clients are very happy with their nails.

Hope this helps. If you at all worried that there is infection do not put an enhancement on. Direct her to a doctor. I knew the reason for each problem so felt ok to go ahead.

Good luck let us know how you got on

Julie
