I am doing a friends nails on Sunday (L&P) and her nails have deep deep ridges vertically on all - I am wondering what causes this and will be trying out Ridge Out for the first time on her but is the the only hting to use and doing L&P's should I be using this. Wondering what sort of advice I can give her, etc. tHanks x

I was told that ridges occur due to age and the nail plate drying out + other factors health etc..I would personally IMO recommend regular manicures, get her to purchase a nail buffer/shiner,and get her to buff her nails every other day, you say shes a friend I would also point her in the direction of taking an omega 3 vitamin on a daily basis.

If you are applying enhancements then that will sort out the ridges and they will look much improved.

As said above ridged or 'celery stick' nails are an age and hereditary thing too. Most likely her mother's or grandmother's were exactly the same. Mine too!!

Do not advise too much buffing ever on ridged nails. You can cause severe splitting of the nail this way. You reduce the ridges and then they split up the nail where the ridges were!! No no.

CND Ridge Out is a great product to use to disguise ridges on a natural nail but very deep ridges are hard to hide even with this product unless you use 2-3 coats.

Dietary supplements will not improve them either ... ridges are not cause by diet in this case.

Can I just check that you wont be using the Ridge Out as the same time as the L&P?

Thanks everyone for your vaulable feedback.

Theresa no sorry I wasn't clear was I - I want to try it out of her with some varnish on a few nails first to see for myself what it can do - also to enable me to sell her ridge out also possibley. Will then remove and apply L&P's the right way.
