Hi all,

I have 2 questions .. firstly just to clarify the dip method .. is it resin that is painted on the nail prior to dip?

Second .. how many dips should I do for a new set?

xx

I'm confused by the thread title.
Popits are used for L&P, and uv gel.
Why would you do a dip refill over L&P or gel?
"tip-n-dip' is a weaker system.

"Tip-n-dip" aka "gel-resine" is when a Resin is applied to the nail, the nail then either A) dipped into acrylic powder or B) acrylic powder sprinkled over it (my preference), then more resin is applied, then an activator to harden it.

The number of 'dips' all depends on how much growth and how you apply the resin and whether you're building an apex or not.
Yes, an apex can be built with tip-n-dip.

hth's:hug:

sorry for confusion .. its been a long week .. had lots of things on my mind :)

I am interested generally in the tip and dip but don't use this currently .. its int to hear you say not as strong as I did wonder! I've seen it done and there seems to be a loyal following for it?

In terms of popits I think I was thinking .. if I use clear over french tip .. french tip grows out .. for infill need to move white back .. wondering about dipping?

The dipping method for a white french is CRAP.
No smile line, and generally speaking... NOT attractive... and I did dips for 15yrs. If there was a way to get an actual clean "smile line" that curves with dips, I would have found it.

Again, I don't see the sense of infilling over L&P that is superior, with a Dip that's inferior.
Just rebalance and redo your french with the L&P.

Hi surfergirlie xx

Well, It depends what system your referring to when you say ‘tip and dip’. I’ve used Backscratchers Extreme Powder Glaze for 7 years but I believe there is indeed an ‘inferior’ product called Rio that has the same rational of ‘tip and dip’ but not the quality……that’s the impression I get but hopefully another geek will correct me if I‘m wrong . As for the dip system itself being the weaker - not everybody needs the strength of an l &p. It would be like suggesting nobody bother with silk for example because generally it’s the one system most tech’s may say is the finest or 'weakest' :irked: For me personally, I fell upon Supernail Powder Glaze by accident. I was using their fibreglass for years when my trainer and educator suggested I do 2 things. That I stop being so narrow minded and give the dip method a wee bash, and that - at that time - it was one of the few systems that you could integrate a fibreglass / silk stress strip underneath a level dip on top. As I was used to using fibreglass anyway , I automatically French polished my clients regardless. It really is a beautiful, thin, natural , crystal clear finish. I just really believe that you have to assess each and every clients taste and desired finish individually. The more variety and appreciation you have of any and every kind of system the more of a TECHNICIAN you are.
So go for it surfergirlie!!! :) Let me know how you get on - kinda feel that was a rant!!! Didn’t mean it to be xxxxx hee hee xxxx
Really hope you give it a go. Training and product details etc are available from - Supernail 02087521924

SORRY if I gave the wrong impression. I rushed through my answer and it just popped out all wrong:o

I don't hate tip-n-dip. I still do it occasionally and definately see it's place in the industry. Heck, here in Quebec, in 'real' salons; you see 'tip-n-dip' more often than you see L&P. L&P is usually most often found at NSS.
I have often defended tip-n-dip (aka gel-resine where I am) and it's place in the industry on this very site.
BUT I also accept it's limitations and "dipped" french's are not attractive.

And YES there are definately differences in the systems available.
And yes, some clients get on VERY well with it and don't need anything stronger.

But I repeat, I don't understand why one would tip-n-dip over L&P if that's what was applied in the first place.
I guess I just don't know how to answer since I'm baffled by the why.
