Hello, I've been doing nails for 5 years, i do hard gel, acrylic, gel polish and now i'm thinking of buying a the SNS set and colors to do dip nails. There are not many salons in my area that do them and we have people asking regularly especially during summer months. But it is a BIG investment! Buying a whole lot of colors is very expensive and I understand why salons that do tons of walk ins would invest but I get many return clients

I'm wondering how it wears on the nails over time?
Do nails get thin and weak?
Is it a pain to deal with or is it a nice fast service?
Was it worth investing the money?

I would love any advice or experience with the dip system! Thanks!

I tried some out on a stand at a beauty show the year before last..possibly cuccio.

For the most part, I was impressed. The French tip dip looked really helpful to speed things up but my nails are short so I had regular colour. It was pretty amazing watching it happen and I expected to have powder or colour all over my fingers but it slides right off.

Even though germs don’t survive in nail polish I was a bit like..err some of the hands and feet I’ve seen I’m not sure I’d want everyone sharing this.. but apparently it’s meant to be fine. I’m just a germaphobe.

With the lasting of it I’m afraid I can’t remember at all but it obviously didn’t leave a lasting impression.

As for speed of it, by the time you’ve done the additional steps, I could have easily freehand painted French but then I’m sure some people find it saves them hassle.

Since your clients are actually asking for it, that’s something to consider. But then I spent thousands studying for massage after being asked about it by the same people for years and years and not a single one of them that asked for it, only other clients that are new or been a long time client and not asked for it. That’s why I think with something that seems trending is a big risk. You just don’t know if they will still want it further down the line. I’ve only ever had one person mention dip to me so it’s not for me.

But if you specialise in nails and enhancements..why not have something else. Figure out what is in common about the ones that are asking you and that should help get to your target market for it.

Use the search facility for 'dip' , the system is regularly discussed on here so lots of info

If you can do acrylic, there's no need to invest in dip, as its essentially acrylic, except it doesn't look as good(it can be very thick). Its just a fad.

Should you invest in it? Its hard to say because I don't know your situation. In my salon, we have over 10 nail techs so a cheap dip system makes a lot of sense because we charge a lot for a set and we have high volume of clients who likes to try different products.

Thanks for the info!

I've tried searching it several times and I haven't come across any other topics on the dip on here. Even google search just comes up with clients review. Not nail tech's point of view. Which is the most important.

That's annoying, especially as one of the main brands is SNS and if you try to search for 'SNS' it says words too short, it didn't used to be. Maybe one if the mods could raise it with the Web support team.

In the mean time use 'dipping' - you'll get some results and brand names so you can search deeper in those too

I have been using the Artistic Perfect Dip and personally I love it, they give a really intense colour and there's no smell to them so it's not unpleasant for my clients. Also the Dual-Ended Dip Dish allows you to create two perfect smile lines. It's so quick and easy and my clients have been getting 14+ wear of it!

How much would you charge for a set of dipped nails? X
