The other day for some reason I was scratching my neck and it ended up really sore - I showed my husband who said it was a mole and told me to leave it, but by then it was pouring with blood.

Gradually, over last couple of days, it has gotten bigger and is still irritating me.

I went to chemist who advised me to go to Doctor - yeah, 'cause it's that easy to get an appointment! - but I am wondering, what could it be?

It was not there before, I have no other moles anywhere on my body, I am not fair skinned.

I am not unduly concerned, but with all the hype about skin cancer, I would like advice from beauty professionals who have probably seen this many times over - or have possibly experienced this themselves.

i don't know hun but better to get checked out.

i have one on the inside of my upper thigh which has got bigger recently. just been told to keep an eye on it.

Without being able to see your mole and not having any sort of medical training whatsoever, all I could advise you to do is what you have already realised yourself: go to see your GP.

If your local doctors is hard to get an appointment at, Arrowe Park Hospital's walk-in centre will keep you waiting about an hour tops.

If you have a mole that changes size or shape you should ALWAYS get it checked out.

I have every intention of seeing the doctor about it - what I was asking for basically, was things it could be.

OK, well it didn't seem that way from your initial post, just trying to help:rolleyes:

And I wasn't being funny Jac.... but as soon as 'mole' gets mentioned.. everyone goes into panic mode about cancer.

I am not at liberty to get to the doctors this week, but I suppose I could always search online.

There you go - best to be safe than sorry:

Melanoma.com

If a client came to you and said they had found a "lump" what would you say to them.

If you cant get a doctors appointment then could you not see a practice nurse.

hi
I have a mole on my arm i've had it since xmas and it changes colour .So i booked up to see my gp and in 3 weeks had an appointment for the hospital. They told me it was a hair folical (infected) . Im going in 4 weeks to have it removed nothing to worry about .So go and get it sorted then you will know . I waited and waited because i thought horid things and its nothing.
Good luck
(i live in france so i was seen the same day i went to book my app)

Oh dear, looked at that Melanoma site and I am at risk - burned severely a few years ago and used to be an avid sunbed user.

Ironic that I get a funny mole after opening a tanning salon

Will get it checked out asap, not going to touch it now.

Let's hope it's all OK.

Thanks for the help ladies

I recently went through a skin cancer scare and had an op to have a mole removed off my back. The medical professionals were great, once I saw the dr I got an appointment with a specialist at hosp less than a week later then 2 weeks later I had the op which was painless, just a little sore.
I'm glad to say I got the all clear a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a rare form of skin growth.
I know that it easy to panic and think cancer but there are so many other possibilities and once you see the dr they may be able to give you some kind of idea what it could be. I looked on websites for advise before I saw the dr and matched mine to a cancerous one which freaked me out so I would advise you not to do that!!
Good luck hun and we're thinking of you (and if you can't get an appointment next week say its an emergency)
Keep us posted

Its not Panic mode, its commen sense, I know, my mum had skin cancer, hers they think was from not using enough sun protection when on holiday in Australia.

Definitely get it checked out by your Gp, however, pregnant women are prone to skin changes during pregnancy. Existing moles can darken and blemishes that weren't there before may appear because of all the hormonal changes taking place in your body. Relax a little and try to see your Gp as soon as you are able but bear in mind that it may just be preggie related. Don't fiddle with it or scratch it as benign mole which are tampered with can become sinister in nature. HTH

I gained load of extra moles through both of my pregnancies so maybe it's appeared due to the good old hormones. Also it may just be that as you scratched it and made it bleed that it's got a bit infected?

Hope it's nothing to worry about these things rarely are, but always best to get it checked over.

I was about to answer the same thing... i got a mole on my leg when pegnant with my first and thought nothing of it... then when pregnant wih no 2 the mole got even bigger. Now 8yrs later it is still there just gets a little lighter each year... i also got little blood blisters that are still there.. but it is always better to get these things checked..

i had a mole on my neck and it kept being itchy and bleeding, i went to the dr it was nothing to worry about he said moles just can become irritable especially on the neck area, so he asked if i'd like it removed. had ir removed next week took 2 sec's!

well i have just got back from my appointment at the hospital for my growth thingy...wasnt a mole gone funny or anything..it just kind of appeard...its very pink/red and bleeds sometimes....the doc i went to see referred me to the hospital and they have told me they want to remove it. They said they think its just inflamed blood vessels...but inflamed blood vessel's can also look very similar to a certain kind of melanoma..so off its coming for a biopsy.

Always best to get these things checked out.
