As I am moving to Spain I really want to move into specialising in skin care. I am researching into the more advanced electrical treatments and think the Mircrodermabrasion (the crystals kind - not the brushing kind btw) and Oxygen facials would do well out there. But it's early days in making enquiries and I don't know quite know where to start with what to look for in equipment.

I had a chat with Caci and Crystal Clear last year at Earls Court, and I am favouring towards the Caci as their machine has Chromotherapy incorporated into their Microdermabrasion unit. I also know that LCN do a unit that is a lot cheaper, but I am a bit of a sucker for you get what you pay for ... so how do i know what to look for in what makes a good unit without getting sucked into the "sales pitch hype"?

I think that Oxygen therapy complements this well too, so do any of you offer this and are the results good and which machine do you use?

Really i'm looking for any advice you can throw at me to help me make my choice ... or maybe you have had one of these treatments and can give me feedback from a client's point of view.

Thanks geeky peeps!

Oxygen therapy works really well, howver i can only comment on Karin Herzog,as myself and my husband do the treatments in our salon.

Why i like it is because its hand on and is REALLY effective.
Without going into the science log on to thier website, its very invaluable, and the MD who is Julie is very passionate about the company.

The products sell as it is VERy visual in demonstrating.
However the client does have to use ALL the products to maintain a good skincare routine. My husband is very passionate about the brand its more his baby than mine, but the body products are AMAZING,i wish i took the 3% oxygen body in with me when i was in hospital,as it went under tests to prohibit mrsa from occurring...i always sell it to clients for this and it kills all bacteria.

Coincidentally, are you taking Nimue to Spain, ive looked at thier website and it looks very good.

Personally i think the crystals are much better than this "Sandblasting",which sounds like torture!

Ive looked at Nimue it looks very appealing because its glycolic and corrective. If you want body treatments id go with Academie de beaute, the acadayspa treatments look amazing ,and they WOULD sell because its visual with the tools you use, such as the bamboo the celestial stones and the wooden stones that detoxify, you even massage to a specialised piece of music indicative to the treatment!

I hope you find the right microdermabrasion system Sassy.Im not really a machine gal, dont get me wrong i do galvanic in the salon should the client want it but im more hands on...

For me i say a therapist is only as good as the hands and products he or she works with.
If you use inexpensive products you dont get results and if your toch is heavyhanded and no thought put into it,then one should never have gone into therapy.

Good luck in Spain Sassy. My husband and i plan to move back to France in the next 3 years to open another salon/spa.

Thanks Gabrielle, sorry I didn't make myself clear - by Oxygen facials I meant mechanical ie Oxygen Therapy - Overview - Crystal Clear ... but now I am feeling like a lazy therapist for using machinery lol!!!! But I will look at Karin Herzog, I also hear P8N8 is good too?

I had heard that some microderm' machines can be torture, but I got Crystal Clear to do a quick demo on me and there was no discomfort at all.

Yup I am taking Nimue to Spain as I am such a devotee of it, it really does what is says on the tin and results are immediate after a facial. I am looking for another brand to complement it - ie not as active, more aroma based. There are so many brands out there it's hard to know where to start! I don't do body treatments, I really want to specialise in facial treatments and skin care ... which I think will be great in Spain where people tend to overdo the sun and have the leather look skin (well I guess it co-ordinates with their red handbags lol!) I like the idea of Academie as you can just select which areas you want to take on, rather than having to take the complete line.

I've got a lot of researching to do in the next 6 weeks!!!

Ive heard Uniskin from Academie is the number one best seller in Asia and if it works for asians with pigmentation then im sure thats bound to be a hit.

You MUST take on if nothing else the aromessential facial from Academie,as the smells are DIVINE,i mean i was a Decleor gal but that won me over!
The treatment is 100% natural and involves an acupressure massage unique to the treatment.

Academie is good like you say as you can pick and choose, from the different parts of it.Its holistic, hands on,gives resultd but more long term i would say as its cosmetic than cosmeceutical .
It would complement Nimue really well.
I wish i knew of Nimue a while ago,the range looks wonderful and i did look at your website to see what its like.Very professional IMO.

I had a client who is having microdermabrasion at the moment, but its more the "sandblasting" than the option you are looking for.
She wasnt impressed and found it very discomforting, and i did suggest an aha treatment or Nimue.

With so many ranges its mindboggling and in the end you have to compromise and weigh up the options.

What i like about Academie and Nimue is that not only are the products amazing and the Academie treatments would sell im sure for you,but the training looks impeccable and you can tell that a great deal of time and thought has gone into it.Education is of the uttmost IMO and if a brand invests in Education for the therapist im allfor it:)

I did m/dermabrasion at the salon I used to work at. We got some absolutely amazing results from it, but beautyguru is correct in saying that it's the therapist that counts. If done incorrectly ie too heavily, then yes it can be very painful and go too deep into the skin, leaving a graze. If done correctly it's a very good and effective treatment and can work very well if combined with non surgical face lifting. I'd get a machine tomorrow if I could afford it!
Things I'd look for -
-a good skincare range to use alongside treatments
-good company backup
-reasonably priced accessories ie crystals, filters
-aftercare warranty for the machine (yes they can go wrong - ours did!)
-size of the machine would be an issue. The one I used to use was ENORMOUS, way too big for many salons.

Just do your research very carefully. It's a big outlay for you and you need to get it right! But well worth it. Good luck.

we have both the crystal clear MDA & the oxygen
they definatley go well together!!

for the oxygen to work better in the skin, it is advisable for the client to have acouple of MDAs first, then an oxygen.

the MDA is great for finer lines, acne scaring, uneven pigment and blackheads.

the oxygen is fab for more deep lines such as crows feet etc as it works more in the deeper layers of the skin.

and also great for acne, it is advisable to change the nozel when you work on a spotty area .

you use it with the serum, a small phial but it treats the entire face twice.
(we have a laugh at work with the clients when we use the oxygen as it can make farty noises!!!)

Oh thank you so much for all your input, you've really helped. HMM I can just imagine on my treatment menu - FARTY FACIALS!!

Do you think people tend to ask for the treatment and aren't worried about the brand, or do you get people asking for the brand rather than the treatment?

Honeymummy do you also sell the Crystal Clear retail range, or do you have another brand for your clients' home use? And how do you rate their training and back up?

Yup Rouge I am so woried about making the wrong choice so I am going to take my time on this one!

I love the farty facials bit!!!!

I think that some clients come in for the crystal clear for two reasons:

they have seen the write ups in the womens magazines as a lot of celebs have it done

also ive found that a lady will come in and say ; what can i do about my face, other wise its botox or surgery for me'.

the other great thing about crystal clear is that it is not tested on animals, i bet the product they use at home is!!!
we also sell the skyndor range, ive not used it much in the salon, i find it a bit too heavy and greasy, its expensive to retail too.

you definatley got to sell the CC products hun, usually the skin repair serum and the skin brightening together. they only retail at about £34 each.

the reverses for more mature skin £45.

the mini mask lift, £20 and the eye lift.

you have got the oxygen facial polish, which is great for acne scarring, it is a skin brightener too.

you can use the MDA for hard skin on the feet, cellulite and age spots on the hands.

as for the micoderm being ' sandblasting' ive never felt any discomfort at all, there are three levels with the cc machine, 1 2 and 3, it sounds like the therapist was pressing down too hard on the slin in the previous threads.

if you need any more advice, dont hesitate to contact me sass
