Child tax credits are only for those with children. Working tax credits are for people with or without children. If you live with a partner or are married then their income is taken into account. I lost mine when I moved in with my partner & cai claim child tax as although I have a low income he is over the threshold. Check out the government website for more info - theres a calculator on there plus contact phone numbers.
