Hi guys,

I'm having difficulty with promoting myself on Facebook. I post my photos with captions and hashtags, but nobody 'likes' the posts.

I can see how many people it's reached but I haven't had anyone contact me for my services. I have also paid a small amount to Facebook in order to boost/promote my page around my area but honestly it's been a waste of money. I have also created an offer for one of my services and yet again nobody has shown an interest.

Same goes to Instagram. I've posted photos of my services/offers but again, nobody has contacted me. It's nice to get a few likes but at the end of the day, I need the business.

There are over 10 people within the beauty industry around my area so I don't know if that's the reason I'm struggling.

Here are my social sites so you can have a see, I'd appreciate any tips and help from anyone. Thanks!

I would go on facebook, join groups related to you business, such as: "Beauty salon owners", "salon networking", etc. Also read the group descriptions, and whether or not you can promote yourself there. You can then leave a link to your salon. I hope this helped you!

Hi there!

As a complete outsider if I were to look for a makeup artist my eyes are always drawn to artists that post before and after pictures, when you see the typical eyebags, spots & marks etc and then see the after and everything is covered and enhanced that does it for me, I love to think wow if she can do that she could make me look really good too! You can actually see your talent, rather than just the finished look? Something like this :) x

I've never gotten a client from insta but a good thing I've found is to post on your "page" then share it from your profile it gets a much better interaction that way

That's a great idea except you need the permission of your clients to post these and I would say with the exception of maybe my best friends and my mom, no one or none of "MY" clients would allow me to post a before picture.
I have such amazing results from certain products and they would not allow me to show them to anyone.

Best advertising is world of mouth, each client who loves my work will tell all the work ladies or her friends. When you have a good client base , you can completely stop advertising. Which finally I am at! Yay 10 years and worth it.

Thanks, I've only done one like that but I'll do more once I get clients x

It's finding the clients to spread the word that I'm finding difficult! :(

Hey, I've recently started sharing the post to my personal account, only get the one like :/

You can start by building up your portfolio. Do free/low price manicures for your friends and get them to spread the word for you!

Good luck!:p

You have over 800 followers. That is pretty good. Some advice for Instagram.
1. Hashtag the full amount of 30 hashtags- do it in comments - not your original post.
2. Include your area in hashtags, and include location in your photos. hashtag your name - ie) #amitamakeup_location
3. you are only following 144 people- follow more- follow locals- follow local businesses, follow way more and interact with those businesses- restaurants, stores groups anything. Comment on their postings. The more you do this, the more locals will be interested in who you are. You need to give in order to receive. I just booked 4 people this week and had 2 come in to buy product strictly from my instagram.
4. Post at least once everyday. Use the 7 day free trail of Iconosquare to find out when you get the most activity to your account. https://pro.iconosquare.com/
5. Get all your clients to follow you, get them to tag you on their own instagrams and fb accounts.
6. Work with local photographers and other artists-hair etc. to do photoshoots to build your portfolio. Go on local sites and advertise for local photographers and hair artists and models that want to build their portfolio-

I really don't mean to sound like a cow but perhaps you need to work on your skills and get really good before worrying about pushing your advertising.

I have looked at your pages.
And it is nice to see your enthusiasm so well done on this.
Like I previously said world mouth is best, and try doing sponsorship prizes for eg breast cancer month is coming up in October maybe host a pink cancer day and hve half price pink manicures day or add some fun into it. Then it help get your name out there too.

Don't give up .

Comments like that do make you sound like one. Really unnecessary as we all start somewhere.

Without advertising you'll have few clients and therefore will gain little experience.

I've found FB advertising very beneficial and my clients tag me in pics and recommend me to friends. Keep plodding away as likes don't necessarily bring appointments.

Good luck [emoji4]

One thought is that your profile picture on facebook might be putting certain people off. At a quick glance it shows you could just specialise in one type of makeup for a certain demographic. Needs to openly appeal to everyone. IE maybe just your logo? A set of nails?

When I look at your page my first thoughts are that your more of a Bollywood make up artist then I see the odd shellac manicures thrown in too which makes your audience slightly smaller. As one would think you just do Bollywood makeovers? Perhaps??

If the OP is asking for honest opinions why should we candy coat things and the OP not actually GAIN any actual tangible advise.
Have you actually looked at each picture constructively before chirping me ciderella71? Because I have. Being honest in my opinion is far more helpful then just saying sweet pleasantries and I did not slash the OP I gave her advise.
I think her positive attitude is very encouraging which like you have said is a good thing.

But I get this group forum is very "clicky" certain members will always "stick together" back each other up and disagree on other members comments . Check the likes always the same ppl...

And FB for me did zip , most people in the world or the younger ppl are using Instagram and snapchat now days not FB as much anymore. I deleted my FB account myself , just a gossip column. But of course what would I know coming from Africa ... Probably nothing

Nailpod are u saying I never like your comments

I don't see the clicky comments and likes. I like what I find informative, polite or an acknowledgement and I comment where I can.
I don't have time to check the likes etc
This isn't contributing in any way to the original post so I won't be replying further.

Guys, I appreciate the comments, good and bad. I'll take it on board. Thanks

I am aware I'm not at an experienced professional level but I wouldn't say I'm an amateur at what I do, my work to some is good but to others it may not be :)
