Fading nail art with colour gel?

Hi ladies. I was wondering if it is possible to do a fading effect with colour gels. Using two different colours where it goes from dark to light from the tip. Could this be done with colour gel and cured under the lamp? I haven't tried it because I don't think its possible, but I'm quite new to all this so what do you all think?
