Fantasy Look - Design help!

Hey all,

I'm in college doing hair & makeup and we have to design our own fantasy look for an assignment.

I've decided to go with a sort of Rocker look, the plan was to make a hairpiece to attach to my models hair. The hairpiece is a tophat.

I made the top hat using chicken wire and cardboard for the base, so now I want to cover this in hair extensions........I can't get the blasted things to stay on! If I use wire to secure the hair wefts on, the wire can be seen :irked:

Has anyone any expierience with making something like this that could give me tips please?

How about using hair grips or pins, if you get fairly thin ones they should be fairly pliable and you can secure this to the wire?
