If I personally was in doubt I would still be super cautious (even if doc says all clear) and make sure I had an old file or two I can use and then dispose of, same with orange wood stick for cuticle work...

Nail polish/ shellac etc will not support pathogen growth so no need to worry about them
Hths

I always keep separate files for each client anyway but do I still need to throw it away even if it is already hers and is sprayed with Mundo afterward?

And I didn't know that about the polish, so I could still use the Shellac on her and then use it on other people without risk of infecting others? That would be very handy and very handy to know for the future! And actually, thinking about it, I guess the Scrubfresh will help too?

I did a blog a couple of years ago with a client with severe onychomycosis.
Even consulted with Doug who confirmed my suspicions were correct.
We had samples sent off but the doctors kept losing them, and due to his circulation problems he ended up with gangrene which the hospital said the fungal infection got into his soft tissue as they hadn't ever been treated, he has had to have major surgery and thankfully now is in recovery but was so ill.
You should be able to find it on my blogs if not here is the link, http://www.salongeek.com/blogs/busybee32/16026-worst-fungal-infection-i-have-ever-seen.htmlthe pics are quite graphic, but in the blog there is also a link to a thread that Bev rose did with a link which is interesting
You did the right thing better to get a second opinion if in doubt an all that.

Thanks for that Jen, I will take a look in a mo - ETA - Oh my word, that poor Man

Just found a few pics for delectation :D is this sort of infection is very common

My clients nails don't look like that, can't even find anything that looks like how hers do.

Well my client has text me this afternoon to say she's had it checked and it's fine. She also said (which she didn't say before) that she has actually had it like this for over 20 years and has been to GP's and even a specialist, all of whom couldn't give her an answer for what it is but were certain it's not an infection. She has previously used Lamosil for great lengths of time and it made no difference.

So do you all think I can go ahead? Is it definitely ok to use the Shellac on her? So paranoid that she might be telling fibs and so then don't want to use my Shellac on others and give them infections! Just want to make absolutely sure before I text her back and book her in. Thank you all so much, this has been a really useful thread of info

Just bumping up. Need to text my client back today, just after reassurance whether I can go ahead or not xx

I was going to say the same as you, in that what if she didn't actually go to the Dr's and just said she did?

But then reading Envy's and others posts, I think it would put my mind at ease and go ahead. I totally understand how you feel though.

Would you be able to take a before pic, for the thread for future reference? This is one subject that I really need to get to grips with, to feel more confident about.

Thank Geek for this site :D

I asked her before I started looking over her feet if she would mind me taking before and after photos and she didn't want me to as she doesn't like her feet.

But if I go ahead I might ask her again and word it along the lines of it being for educational purposes or something ;)

Can any one else clarify that fungus can not grow and be spread through polish ? I love doing pedicures and always use a new file and orange stick for each client, and use Mundo for tools, use a new liner in footsie spa. I have declined a few treatments because of suspicious toes. It's not very often you get a client with perfectly pretty toe nails, and often wonder if more people have things I shouldn't be touching. (yes I am fully qualified )

Does anyone ask the client to bring the Dr's note with them? Or do you just trust them?

We all know people can tell fibs to get what they want.
