I have just finished a six week course at college doing an introduction to gel nails. I done my first set of nails on my sister but the gel keeps lifting and i dont know how to prevent this form happening.

Lifting form the nail plate or from the tips?

From the nail tip.

Tips must be etched well with a least a 180 grit file for gel to stick and then capped with your gel. If you have smoothed them over or not etched them then the gel will not stick.

For 'capping the free edge' have a search here on the site and you will find how to do it. It basically means making sure you have covered the edges of the tip with gel as well as the surface before curing.

Gels shrink when curing. If you do not cap the edges then you will also get lifting.
