im just woundering what everyone prefers? in ireland gel nails are well popular but i have found alot of problems with the gel from previous applications, everytime i went to the uk to visit friends i got acrylics appled and think they last much longer and are way stronger, i want to train in acrylics can ireland move on from gel? would there be a market for them?

Not sure about Ireland, but Im trained in both Acrylic and Gel and find Im hardly ever asked for acrylic anymore and personally find Gel (biosculpture) in higher demand from clients...

It's neither, nor.

It's whatever system you do BEST and how good your work & client relations is that will have clients returning.
It's about educating clients that it's NOT one or the other that's better.
It's A) finding a GOOD tech B) whichever better suits their lifestyle.

Keep in mind.. many consumers 'think' gel is 'better' for them due to misleading and sometimes FRAUDULENT marketing, and NSS selling them 'bio gel' because it's 'better for their nails' when in fact it's just L&P with gel written on the container.

Decide for yourself, depending on what you want from any given system which one you'll offer. Then choose a brand that is local to you and offers good training. No point in choosing something that is too far to easily obtain when you're in a pinch AND it's too far for technical support.

hiya, i personally find acrylics more popular, hardly ever get asked for gel nails. i think acrylics are definately much stronger and therefore a better option for most clients, and if applied and removed correctly do not cause as much damage to the natural nail. xxx

NEITHER system causes damage to the natural nail when applied and/or removed by a conscientious and qualified tech.
In addition, acrylics are NOT much stronger than UV Gel. The strength of UV Gel versus L&P are equal HOWEVER their strength's are different. L&P relying upon it's "hardness" and UV Gel relying upon it's flexibility.
To infer otherwise, is incorrect and misleading to newbies and consumers alike.

Having said that, I am qualified in UV Gel, Tip-n-dip, L&P.
They each have their place, and their own pros and cons. It's a case by case basis, upon which I decide I apply to the client's nails.

For some art, I much prefer L&P.
For fancy french's done with polish, I much prefer uv gel as you can easily clean the smile line with acetone with no adverse effects to the product.
etc etc etc.. the pros and cons for each is a long list.

I agree with VHunter. both systems are good. it's depends on the technician (and clients as well) how long nails will last. if you build the nails properly - the system doesn't matter. it's good for you if you know two techniques. you can always chose which one is better for your client
