Hi...I need help!...I have a client who asked an appointment for gel overlays on hands (she has beautiful long natural nails!!) and toes!....I have done gel on my course in July but have not had one single client since!!...my own bad I didnt practice at all as I was trying to get the L&P right!...Now she wants both hands and toe nails!...I dont feel ready at all, I need to practise before I can even think on doing sth on her..

I am def gonna practise but could you give me any advice/tips?...links to tutorials I can look at before I start practising!...oh i forgot she wants french overlays!!!......pls help!

thanks all:hug:

Hi my advice would be dont do it unless she's a model (and it doesnt sound like it from the panic in your post!). If you are not feeling confident about it, it will show in your work. I see no point in risking a "bad" job - if she's not happy about the service she gets from you, you can be sure she'll tell other people. Tell her the truth and give her the option of either being a model for you, or (if you're happy to do it) offer her the L&P and a regular pedicure. And in the meantime get in as much practice as you possibly can, even on yourself. Good luck:)

Well the pedicure part is the least of your worries! You don't build an apex on toes, so it is like applying polish ... very simple, just follow procedure for the gel you use.

As for the fingernails, you are right to practise and if you don't think you can do a good job for her then convince her to have L&P or tell her you will do the gel for a model price so you can get some practise. It would most likely be good for you to do this ... you will never get the practise or experience if you don't use your products.

No use trying to pretend you can do something in an expert fashion if you know you can't. Just as important to your experience is not just the doing of the nails, but experiencing how your work lasts by seeing the client again and again ... get her to help you if you can.

There are great tutorial for gel on Gina's website. Tutorials
Have a look at those and practice, practice, practice!

By the way... Do we spell practice different in the US? Or am I just spelling it wrong?

There probably is just one way of spelling it in the US. We have two different words. "To practise" as a verb, eg "I practise doing my smile lines every day."
Then there is the oher way, (not sure what it is called, a noun? maybe someone better at grammar can help out), "the practice of putting monomer on the nail plate leads to overexposure hazard", or the "I went to the Doctor's Practice to get a prescription." I hope this is all right. If someone disgrees though, I'm sure it will be my mistake.

I only found out there were two different words when I was 33. Not sure if it is because I missed out on grammar lessons at school, or because I was brought up in Canada and if there is only 1 way of using it in the US we probably only had one word too.

Be honest she'll appreciate it and wont mind. As you havent done ANY gel practice I wouldnt even suggest doing gel toes and l&p hands just give her both l&p and remember to keep it thin.
